Has anyone noticed that the deal is four not five years. Always the pessimist I notice the significance.

1) A four year deal is like a presidential election - two years in office then two years haggling to get a move or reelected.

2) Two years then he looks for a pay increase or a move

3) This is a player keeping his options open

Whaddyasay?

I too thought the same as you. SSN were adamant it would be a five year deal. But yes 5 year deal is more definite in terms of staying, a four year deal, he could be out the door in 2 years no problem. Hope it doesn't come to that

we'll agree to 4 years whilst the ffp shit is overcome, when it runs aground we can then tie players down on any money we wish.

The good players we will resign after two years so, it will never get down, passed two years left in theory.

Yes I noticed. And I agree with this:

I guess we won't be handing too many long contracts out again after Ade, Bellamy et al

I don't think we will see many more 5 year contracts in the future with the trouble it is causing us now with ffp looming.

on the good side (i think) it gives unhappy players the option of buying out of their contracts after 2 yrs with 2yrs to pay instead of 3.
i would like to see some hefty buy-out clauses like they use on the continent to deter rival clubs from tapping up our star players although, with our club not being starved of cash its probably less of a problem to us.
