Technically they did the right thing. But I think it is at a parents discretion. If he wasn't your son then there would be more of a case, but if he wanted a drink and was underage and you decided you thought it right he could have one then there is no issue. Took their job a bit too seriously really.

I was in the queue behind you waiting to be served. You were shouting at the staff member (a girl aged around 19) as was your son and holding up the queue all over a drink which they were perfectly correct in refusing because he had no ID!
Hang your head in shame fella - I can't believe you genuinely felt you had grounds for complaint!!
