Great player and ahead of his time as a defender. Deserved to be the number 2 after Cruyff in his playing days.
And tbh that’s all to be said about the man. But still a great player indeed.

I read a story today which I don’t think I’ve heard before.
Beckenbauer and Charlton spent the 1966 WCUP final plodding up and down the pitch, each deputed to man mark the other. As the game went on around them and seemingly without them, Beckenbauer turned to Charlton and said: “Fancy a trip to the corner flag?”

An absolute legend. A wonderful player and these so called pundits making cheap comparisons are utterly clueless. There was only one Beckenbauer and he was very special…. the football family is losing too many of its legends these last few years. RIP Der Kaiser.
