The reality is City was in many ways a bigger challenge and he seemed to prefer United because he’d probably get more game time. Maureen might be a twat but playing for Pep is a harder gig.
I guess it depends on what one means by challenge. We were well on our way to being champions without him. So in terms of winning a trophy, United was the real challenge.

In terms of playing time, I think he'd have gotten similar preferential treatment here as he did there. But I could be wrong. The preferential treatment wouldn't have lasted as long though. So there is that.

I genuinely didn't want him, we've got enough short players, adding someone of about 5ft 6 would make us weaker at set pieces and in midfield battles. I definitely think Jorginho is a better signing, as even though he's no giant he is more normal sized.

Hmmmm! I don't know if I believe this, if there is a fan that loves big names, it's you :p

I've seen this release clause reported a few times now.....I guess we could have signed him at any time in Jan, if we really were serious? 44mil seems to be the release clause so not too expensive in this market...

No agreement yet on Fred transfer fee, according to a source involved in negotiations. Shakhtar Donetsk still asking for the full €60m release clause. #MUFC #BRA

I'm not sure what kind of exchange rate you're using. It's 52.5M.

We never wanted him anyway...

I genuinely didn’t. We need a Fernandinho clone, ie not just a decent technician, but someone as tough as teak who wins every tackle and, considering he’s only 5ft 9’, a phenomenal amount of headers. Good player though he is, Fred really is a titch and deficient in certain aspects that we need. I don’t think Jorginho ticks all the boxes either, but he ticks more than Fred

€60m = £53m

Why any player would want to go there instead of City is disappointing and bewildering. Clearly says more about the greed of the player than any allure of the club these days. Choosing to play under pegs negative yesteryear regime instead of Pep's visionary flowing ethos says it all.

We haven't been back in for him since January. The player was keen but Shakhtar wanted too much in our view

Given Shakhtar's chairman said "if not to City then to Utd" it would seem te player himself would have chosen us if in the position to do so.

You cheeky git! I'm 5ft 6", just a bit bigger than SWP, what are you trying to say?!
