I've never used a stream before.
Are they reliable?

Yes & No is the simple answer mate....some streams are good quality, whilst others drop offline and back online during the game

How will I know that it is going to come on?

Usually if they aren't working you will find out as soon as you press play....it will usually say offline or simply show a splash screen. If the stream is working, you will usually get a text in the middle of the screen saying "buffering"....wait a few seconds and the stream starts

Will it just come on at the start of the game or should i be able to see something on the screen before it kicks off?

some streams start just before kick off, others will have the match build up. Check out the veetle fox soccer link, that usually has studio build up. that veetle stream probably wont come live until about 8.15pm....its a fox soccer stream so it will have build up on it

It won't be a live stream issue i don't think. Can you check the full makeup of the link, maybe the identifier after the hash is missing a character or something. All other Veetle links open with no syntax errors.
