Free Loft and Cavity wall insulation

Yes all fine, very noisy (unavoidable),18 year old daughter complained probablty cos it got her out of bed at noon lol...must be the pump they use..
wasn't there so missed it all,but all looks good, wouldn't know they have been really...will have to defer the loft as we have to clear it out and its a lot of work, especially when the Blues are heading for the title (hopefully) all my
energy is on Monday and rest of the season at the moment..will be in touch
when its ready for being insulated.

Re: Free Loft and Cavity wall insulation.

Well that was a waste of time. :-(

Cavity Wall insulators just came. Won't do side of house because of standing on the garage roof which is asbestos. Didn't think they would. They could only do the back and front of the house. Had a look at my gas fire and said it's over 7kw which means they'd have to install a vent. The surveyor who previously surveyed it all said if you're fire is over 7kw it'd need a vent, and when he saw that it was 7.5kw he said it'd be ok and put down it didn't need one. Well it does need one! Obviously having a vent installed would mean a draught coming through, which would be totally pointless in having the cavity walls insulated as I'd feel no benefit.

Oh well, at least I've had my loft insulated which was needed.

anybody know if cavity wall insulators need access to the property?

Only if you've had an extension where the original main wall is still inside your house. If I would've had mine done then they'd have had to access my front porch from inside.

Just seen this fuzzy.

Sorry for all your messing about.
Can I ask who the surveyor was?

fuzzy aside from the cavity wall insulation, if you have a fire over 7kw output YOU NEED PURPOSE MADE VENTILATION ! you and your familys lives can be in danger if you don t have it!!

i'm gas safe reg. do not use that fire without ventilation ! the result can be deadly !

Not sure what the surveyors name was, the writing is too faint on the job sheet I've got.
He did say in the first place that I would need a vent if my fire was over 7kw. I can't remember now the reason why he decided he didn't think it'd need one after all. Maybe because it has got a flue. Not sure. He put RSF (whatever that means) in the box where it says gas fire rating.
You don't have to apologise, I knew they wouldn't do the side of my house which is the main wall. I decided myself that if I had the back and front done it wouldn't be really worth it as there isn't much wall because of windows and doors and a vent would only bring a draught through. The insulator guy also thought this. In fact I'd say it was him who brought it to my attention that it'd not be of any benefit to me really.

I've had my loft done so I'm happy enough.

Thanks anyway Daz.

The guy who came to do the insulating explained to me that if I was to have cavity wall insulation it would need a vent because of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The fire has a flue and I had it installed in 2005 I think. It's a Faber Spectra Nova and I did use one of the Housing Units gas fire fitters to install it. Surely it's safe? It does say this in the book:
A room sealed appliance, inlet and outlet are led to the outside using a natural concentric pipe system (100 mm/150 mm) (no power fan required). No additional ventilation is required.

Is it a different story when you have cavity wall insulation? Don't really understand it.

Re: Free Loft and Cavity wall insulation.

i'm getting free wall cavity, free loft and free draft proofing all for nowt, trouble is Ive only just had loft done around Xmas time, but a little more will help, just need to get solar panels free
