They're pretty strict on insulation over here, an inspector comes by to sign off that you've got the necessary insulation before you can drywall. In this county you have to have R21 in the walls and R48 minimum in the roof which equates to about 16 inches of loft.

That's because American houses are still made using twigs, wattle and daub!
is there another way?

I got loft and cavity wall insulation for nowt a few years ago when the govt were promoting it thrugh the energy companies. The cavity wall stuff has certainly made the house retain it's warmth at night.

Got ours done by one of the knock on the door firms in February. Apparently my gas consumption went up in March but then again it was pretty cold. Will see how it fairs this winter, going to buy her indoors a nice warm onesie and maybe a little heater for the bedroom.

Pretty certain that you can it done with a grant from the energy company and it costs nothing or something? I thought there was a guy on here that was offering it about 6 months back.
There was someone on here offering it a while back and loads took up his offer. I was just being a bit grumpy when i said nothings free. Im sure the power companies claw the money back on our bills.

Bloke from Warmfront was offering it on here, but never rang me back.

I got British Gas to do it, you can contact the guy who did it for me on 07789575694 - he's called Bola.

Tom?

British Gas did mine too ... didn't cost me a penny !

this is a fallacy mate....everyones gas and electric bills have risen to pay for this works

The oracle that is Shady is quite correct, since 1st April 2008 we've had energy efficiency schemes CERT, CESP and now ECO. We might be becoming more energy efficient but we're paying for the energy efficient measures.

Nothings free Mate but just like the NHS you don't pay at time of fitting there is an environmental charge on fuel bills to pay for the insulation works (and pay my wages of course) Insulations still free if you live in certain postcodes or receive certain benefits pension credits in fact if you receive Pension Credit and your central heating boilers knackered then you can have a new one for free (not the rubbish Warmfront used to fit either) The Government have made getting free insulation for most houses very complicated though.

got mine fitted by two Polish lads. Top job. Git it for nowt of british gas.

-- Thu Sep 26, 2013 7:09 pm --

i got wall and loft insulation, new boiler and radiators with thermostats. The temp knob on the boiler is on half what it used to be. Did our bills go down ?
Did they fuck, but our house is a hell of a lot warmer.

Turn the thermostat down a bit then 1 deg supposed to knock 10% off the heating bill so they tell us,
