This has never happened. I can search the entire forum including the Mod Forum and nobody has been called anti-Semitic for disagreeing with murder. These type of bullshit statements do not help at all and just aggravate the situation.

You're saying not one single poster was accused of supporting Hamas because they disagreed with the Israeli tactics? The anti-semitic thing was probably more of a vibe, so I'll retract that one, apologies.

Just too many Israeli sympathisers that don't like hearing the truth so they resort to the tried and tested, "stop being anti-semitic stance" and make sure the thread gets ended. I love the mods on here.

Do you know WHY somebody was called anti-Semitic before (and they weren't actually called anti-Semitic or racist but rather were accused of making anti-Semitic comments)? Because he posted a conspiracy theory that "THE JEWS" are controlling the American financial institutions from behind the scenes and forcing the US to stay out of Israeli politics. And I called his comments anti-Semitic and Ducado called them a racial slur.

It pisses me off that people are now qualifying statements like anybody at all would call them a racist for criticising Israel when we've had 700 pages of Israel criticism over the last few weeks. The reason the mods have become more heavy handed in the last few days is how ridiculously racist some of those comments were and how Ducado and PB felt pressured not to touch them purely because they're Jews and don't want to be seen as "controlling". So then the rest of us took over the heavy work in terms of moderating the thread based on what we personally find unacceptable as non-Jews and non-Arabs, with a mixture of theists and atheists. Then because we started pulling threads when they either break down past the point of argument or when some clown starts throwing out anti-Semitic remarks about how Israel and the Jews need to be wiped off the face of the Earth (which has literally been said in these threads, more than once by more than one users).

Yesterday, two largely anti-Israel users were banned. Both were banned by me. One of them was because he went off on a dadiast-type rage in the forum then PM'ed a moderator literally to call him a c**t and go off on him. He got a month, mainly as this was a build up of things over time and the PM was unacceptable. The other one was because I thought they were either drunk or remarkably pissed off, and went off on one in the forum. He got a month then reduced it to a day as to be fair it's the first time he's really done something like that and hopefully he'll come back calmed down and think before he posts.

The mods have gotten more heavy handed (and by the mods I mainly mean myself) because anti-semitism IS on the rise on Bluemoon. We've got 20 examples in the Mod Forum from the last few days alone. Would you like to know what somebody suggested the other day? That I, an Anglo-Saxon agnostic atheist, had been read the Riot Act by the other mods and strongly hinted that somehow THE JEWS are now in control of the moderation team on a football forum. Then he called it "JewMoon" and said that all anti-Israel sentiment is being censored. He said this in a thread literally filled with anti-Israel sentiment.

This Israel-Palestine conflict from a Bluemoon standpoint is like watching posters beat the shit out of Israel for 20 pages calling them every name under the Sun and then when somebody pipes up that maybe this isn't a black and white issue, they are immediately drown out by self-righteous people who declare that they're "apologists", "sympathisers", "murderers" or on one occasion "a fucking Jew". Then when a mod thinks that the arguments have gotten out of hand, we get new threads stating how the mods are pro-Israel. Despite the fact that if you look at the mods opinion, they're largely divided on the issue.

Threads are getting pulled for an incredibly simple reason; the same posters are creating arguments instead of trying to discuss the issue. People aren't asking for freedom of speech, people are asking for the right to sit in a thread and agree with each other over and over and wait until somebody disagrees with them so they can round up on them. The days of PB and Skashion having informative discussions about the nature of the conflict are long gone and no discussion is taking place because there's a certain element of posters who refuse to allow it to. Pro-Israeli posters have literally given up because we didn't do a good enough job at the beginning.

Do you know who suggested the crackdown here in the Mod Forum? De Niro. That's how bad it has gotten.

I know you like WWE wrestling and I think you are a c**t for going do, but I applaud this fantastic explanation , I agree it's got stupid , well done Damo great post

I drafted it up for him and he just posted it really.......like you say great post and explains exactly how things are at the moment

Re: Freedom of speech

Oh and Damocles I don't mean to disagree with the point you made at all, it was getting out of hand, it's just that I believe it was down to posters on both sides. It's very hard for some of us to accept people defending blowing up a school because terrorists may have been there and for it to be implied or said outright that we support that terrorist group because we disagree with the school being blown up.

I'm not trying to have a row with you on this issue, I like you as a poster and a mod, I'm just putting out my own view on it.

No, just the other thing.

I actually did search anti-Semitic and those words have been posted often over the last couple of weeks. In the main they have been posted by people who are complaining that pro-Israelis accuse them of anti-Semitism. There's an irony that the most common usage is people complaining about something that almost never happens.

The closest that I can find are two things:

One poster said that he feels that some anti-Semites are using this conflict to air their views in a cloak of respectability.

Another poster said something like "I hope you're all enjoying your Jew bashing" because somebody posted an American flag with an Israeli flag in the corner. The problem is that they were talking about the Israel lobby in American politics and not "Jew bashing" in any manner

Them two are closest I can find.

This, in a nutshell, as was also explained quite eloquently last week and yet again we are here explaining it to the hard of understanding

Re: Freedom of speech

great post Damo

the one thing I particularly don't like to see is when someone makes a post (me included) which may be misinformed or naive or something that another poster doesn't agree with and then someone else just posts a stream of abuse and name calling. It isn't constructive and doesn't add anything to the debate/discussion. You can disagree with another poster without calling them stupid or much worse!

Gee thanks Mister. I'll be on my way to stare at cars now.

Re: Freedom of speech

With freedom of speech comes huge responsibility. We are all guilty of occasionally failing to express our view in a responsible and measured way. The last few weeks has been a real eye opener for me as I've never read so much hate on this forum before except perhaps in the Mancini Cabal threads (a topic which polarised people across all political, religious and cultural boundaries). It's disappointing sometimes to see otherwise highly intelligent and articulate posters expressing themselves so poorly simply because a thread has got to such an emotional level that individual clarity of thought is dispensed with in favour of group think.

Re: Freedom of speech

Jewmoon - I did find that funny. Maybe an idea for a new forum?

Well perhaps you understand the concept of 'free speech' on a forum owned by a private individual is a utopian desire. The reality being that Ric and the moderation team allow what can and cannot be posted in line with the CoC, Ric's wishes and moderation team outcomes.

Great post.

What does dadiast mean? Can't find it in the dictionary.

I misspelt Dadaist.

Da·da or da·da (dädä)
n.

A European artistic and literary movement (1916-1923) that flouted conventional aesthetic and cultural values by producing works marked by nonsense, travesty, and incongruity.

[French dada, hobbyhorse, Dada, of baby-talk origin.]

Dada·ism n.
Dada·ist adj. & n.
Dada·istic adj.

I always took it to mean anarchic/nihilist.
