the problem is the mods are blues, normal blues, they know things can get heated. i dont usually mither with a warning, i'd usually pm. the pm's that come the other way usually imply the poster holding thier hands up. cos i'm a rum fucker i also rarely ban but this racist shit has got out of hand.
expect a tougher approach from now on. from me anyway.

its no good being nice.

shame.

TBH, it's getting so bad that I don't bother posting on most threads, you can't have a decent debate about stuff on here now without either getting shouted down or told you are stupid/naïve/uneducated etc. if shit like this happened in a pub (where most discussions used to take place) there's a fair few on here who would get battered.

That's probably why it used to be an unwritten rule in a pub that you didn't discuss religion or politics

We even had to ban both subjects at family gatherings at one point. We had a potent mix of Tories, Socialists, Catholics and Atheists.

Good evening, long time no chat! I only qualify for one of the above

We ban alcohol at most family occasions, works much better, although I suppose you can't do that in the pub.

It tends to get quite poisonous on here when the subjects of Israel/Palestine and Northern Ireland/Celtic/Rangers. I'm surprised the mods let them go as far as they invariably go, to be honest. They end up full of bile and are a deeply unpleasant read.

Evening Ronnie ;-)

Which one lol?!

In the end it didn't matter really; Gran was a lapsed Catholic Tory and Grandad was a Catholic firebrand Socialist. Aunt was a Tory Catholic and Uncle was a more middle of the road Atheist. They always managed to find a lot in common though when it came to tolerance, aspirations and common sense.

To be fair my Uncle went through a phase of goading my Aunt about her beliefs, and everyone else then got involved. It was never nasty though and yes drink was usually around ;-).
I quite miss those days actually lol!

I think Internet forums breed a kind of siege mentality where to win the argument becomes all consuming. As Ronnie said, it wouldn't happen in a pub because people usually know the boundaries.

You're right there ;-)

Irony was my Uncle wanted to be a priest at one point; he became a Tax Collector instead ;-)

Still handing around a collection plate I suppose :)
My Dad's family are from the north and split 50/50 protestant/catholic so that's one family gathering that politics and religion are definitely off the agenda at, when you can manage to get them in the same room.

Hi macca - you see I really struggle with why? I think m exactly the same in real life as I am on here but some people would just get taken out if they spoke like they do on here in a pub!

Never had that kind of conversation in a pub tbh.

You ARE the same in real life as on here; I like to think I am too.

However, sometimes I want to batter a poster so perhaps it's just as well we have Internet forums lol!!

Yeah well people are more likely to run their mouth at somebody when that person isn't standing in front of them.
I try not to get personal with anyone on here, it can be difficult sometimes though :)

see this is just wrong. we want to attract posters not scare them away.

Absolutely.

I've rarely met a Bluemooner that I didn't get along with. Strangely enough the ones that I dislike are the ones I have met and initially liked but transpired to be two faced keyboard warriors.

In other words; inadequate enough to find security in attacking others from behind a keyboard but cowards in real life.
