There's no way that he'd come in and be as solid or dependable as Gundogan for at least 1-2 years.

I dont think you could be more wrong on both those comments.

He has more ability on/with the ball and he has more strings to his bow in terms of versatility. As for dependability,he's also a better option,as Gundogan is quite often missing because of fitness issues or he simply doesn't influence games enough when the opposition shows attacking intent or puts us on the back foot.

Can we , who is better than Gundogan that will be happy to sit behind KDB , Silva Berardo, and maybe next season Foden in the pecking order.

De Jong would be a more than capable back up at CM and could rotate when necessary behind KDB, Silva, Bernardo and Foden. We'll still have Fernandinho for another couple of seasons. Ferna could also comfortably play in a more advanced number 8 role.

More than enough depth until Dave retires, by which point, you'd hope that Foden is a bona fide star and there's another academy lad knocking on the door (Doyle). If we need to buy another play to soften the blow of Dave leaving, we can

My personal view is that Foden isn't going to get the minutes he needs to develop until one of our CM's leave and the most dispensable is Gundogan. These are the sort of moves the club needs to make if they ever want academy players getting serious minutes. Getting rid of Gundogan would not effect the club in anyway and he's just detriment to Foden's career at City as things stand, as picking Gundogan represents the safe option to Pep.

People bang on about Gundogan's versatility, but Fernandinho continues to play week in week out at DM and, so far, Stones has been preferred over him as the rotation option.

Without playing his ability down, the likes of Jack Byrne and Manu Garcia have looked like world beaters in Eredivisie. FDJ looks to be a class above in terms of his ceiling, but he wouldn't come into the Premier League and be up to speed, delivering the quality of performances that Gundogan can.

I agree with that, if Foden was seen as a replacement for Gundogan then I'm quite happy to see him move on. What I was talking about was the idea that Gundogan should be sold and a " better' replacement brought in' . I'd only be doing that if it was thought Foden wasnt going to make it , but signs are they think he will

I think its possible we sign both, but if we do Gundogan has to go in the summer. I believe he was brought in to play Fernandinho's role, since we now know he can't or Pep doesn't trust him there, there really isn't room for him in our midfield with KDB, Silva, Bernardo, and Foden as the attacking midfielders.

Can we have a midfield next year of KDB, Silva, Bernardo, Foden, Fernandinho, FDJ and Ndombele? Something tells me that FDJ is talented enough to play multiple spots in the midfield. I think Ndombele is exceptional and would offer immediate help for THIS year, and FDJ in the summer. But that would certainly create a log jam at the 6. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

On another note, I think that we can fit three number 6 because Fernandinho is so versatile and Pep trusts him in a few different positions. I could also see him transitioning to centre back if he plays with us another 2 seasons.

It'll play out by only buying one who will rotate with Fernandinho , Gundogan may or may not go think that depends entirely on how Pep thinks Foden has progressed, We aren't going into next season with De jong , Ndombele and Fernandinho for just one position.

But surely FDJ would replace Fernandhino and with Silva retiring in a year or two it would mean four players for three spots with NDJ being versatile.

I know rumors are rumors, but doesn't it feel like City are going after Ndombele in January and trying to lock up FDJ for the summer?
