As has been mentioned, I think its very likely we are keeping our powder dry for Bellingham next year.

50/60/70 or whatever it is in a transfer fee and huge wages for 5yrs for De Jong or hold off 12mths and throw that sort of money at Bellingham.

De Jong or Bellingham, not DeJong or Phillips, Philips is not in the equation he replaces 2022 Fern , Bellingham replaces Gundo next year hopefully.
Rodri has replaced 2019 Fern.

It shouldnt cost 50m+ to replace 2022 Fern.
I think that is where most people have an issue with Phillips. I could get on board at 25-30.
50m+ and he should be pushing for starting minutes every week. Maybe he is/will be good enough for that but I’m pessimistic

50m is small money in football these days you see. How much do you think a Rodri level would cost? Because then that 50m already feels like less. And name 3 players who are better than Rodri, I'm curious.

Pretty sure we would like to take FDJ, as Pep is clearly an admirer, but the money involved would appear to be the issue for us.

That is what I understood from Tolmie's post when the topic was initially raised.Similarly the matter of rotation and team places could be a consideration for us when the player would expect to play regularly.

Also FDJ is not a defensive midfielder, and that is the role we are looking to cover.

Of course we dont know but if it is 50 and not 30 that feels a waste. I agree with the de jong/bellingham comparison. And if it is a choice then bellingham would be preferable.
But if we’re getting a back up DM this summer I’d rather get a foreign 21 yo with a higher ceiling for likely a lower fee. English tax is crazy but if we are shifting sterling then maybe we need one

We should be bringing dejong to the club ,forget phillips he's not good enough to play for city or help us to win the Champions league .
Dejong ,haaland ,Alvarez & cucurella would be great business going into a new season.

We shouldn't pay anywhere near the wages he's on now. I know Barca are in a tight spot and prefer the highest bidder but it all comes down to what the player can live with.will More money and zero trophies be more alluring
I think FDJ is exactly what we need.
