That's true but, and the same time, their worldwide fan base expects them to always have at least one top (or at least, media hype-able) player, a Rooney, a Ronaldo, a Beckham, a Pogba. What they are seeing is other clubs getting the Haalands and the Mbappes and united getting the McTominays. Even Dejong isn't going to cut it as a big name. That is not what they signed up for and they must be haemorrhaging "fans".

I did see the Sad Rag Family straight out of Shameless yesterday at the Traffic Centre…. Mum, Dad and three boys all in the new Rag shirt…. All with numbers and names…. Dad clearly not the fizziest…. Had Ronaldo 7 on the back… No De Jong unfortunately.

I think they know that’s exactly what Barca want. For all their ‘we don’t want him to go’ posturing - it’s pretty evident they can’t afford to keep him either.

With Pedri and Gavi their shining lights too, it makes sense to cash in on De Jong and would’ve happened by now if he wasn’t owed millions in wages.

I think the only reason Utd haven’t paid up yet (fee and wages/signing off fee to cover some the wages owed) is because he’s also made it pretty obvious he doesn’t want to go there.

It’ll happen, though. They’ll get desperate like they always do and bow down to fan pressure of needing a signing because their rivals all have their new shiny toys and they don’t. It’s a shit strategy that’s been going on for 9 years and it’s beautiful to watch.
