Frenkie de Jong

If he wants to stay that much and they want to keep him why not just extend it and drag the money over a longer period again?

So if I understand you correctly, if he leaves Barça are claiming that's the end of his contract & ALL monies owed including the deferred wages?

If correct, they're sneaky bastards! On a point of principle, I'd stand my ground & stay put.
Yes because when the contract ends Barca don’t owe him anything which is why they want him to end it asap and he understandably won’t.

Not sure if it completely works that way. I could be mistaken though. But i have seen "reliable" barca journalists write the club still owes Messi 50 million in deferred wages.

That might be correct each player had his own deal but I think FDJ’s situation is clear…if he goes Barca owe him nothing so he hasn’t gone.

It's a circus isn't it.
Good on FDJ, he owes them nothing, who would walk away from a job being owed millions never to see a penny!
Didn't mind Barcelona until recently - "More than a Club" rings VERY hollow these days though

Messi was released by the club wasn't he? He didn't end his contract it expired so the deferred money should have been pay at that point but messi's love for barca or hoping he could resign they probably came up with an affordable payment plan.
Can see they trying to get out of paying the deferred wages anyway they can, they have already tried pressuring players into retirement or signing on lower terms.

“More than a club” was always arrogant, pretentious, rag/dipper style bullshit.

They thought they could snap their fingers and he'd do as he was told and leave. Hilarious seeing what they'll do next if he does stay.

I read a rumour that they were now looking to sell Ter Stegen instead to free up space. How the mighty have (gladly) fallen!
