Fried bread shock. Advice needed.

Do they still do it on a Morrisons breakfast??

Piece of fried bread with a runny fried egg on top and a touch of Tommy sauce... heaven

Thing is, fried bread (which needs to be fried on both sides, with a substantial depth of Lard/Vegetable Oil or, god forbid, Olive Oil) is nor a peculiarly British thing. It appears regularly, in different guises, particularly in French and Spanish cooking.
