From a new fan...

Now and again, I view the City facebook page, as it's available to non facebook members.

I notice, whenever a status is posted about an old player, all the glory hunters stop commenting with 'GO CITY GO I LOVE MANCHESTER BLUE' and 'liking' the statuses.

Whenever a current player, e.g. Tevez is mentioned, they all comment with 'GO CARLOS I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!' and Ranjid Amamamshaga liking the status whilst his profile picture is a photo of Fabregas or something.

I mean, what kind of mentality do you need to cling on to a club from a City you've never even heard of?

Surely it doesn't feel the same?

I'm imagining myself right now to 'support' Barcelona and it feels impossible to actually gain any passion for them...but I'll buy the shirt, post on youtube videos of Messi and declare my 'love' for Barca.

These kind of people aren't welcome by me...I won't abuse them or owt, I'll just laugh at them, just like they need to be laughed at because they are one big joke.

Say NO!

Loads of good bonhomie and good sense but still a sprinkling of narky bile from those who can't stand the trappings of success.

Perhaps those so called loyal fans who get all threatened by seeing new City fans come aboard should either cast off their defensive attitudes (developed during long years of average performance) or, failing that, go and support a side with dwindling support so that they don't feel quite so threatened.

Personally, I'm delighted by our rise in stature and I welcome all to the fold - as do the vast majority of City fans . . we're a welcoming bunch but unfortunately suffer from a few luddites hidden in the pack - just don't let them put you off!

But why do you think people support Barca from the backwaters of Africa for example? The reason is because they are successful and famous. We are after that fame and success and to an extent, have begun to achieve it. With that will come 'support' from people like you have listed above. Put it this way, say the Internet was as big as it was now in 1999 when we played Macclesfield at home as our Derby, no little kid from the Czech Republic would have scoured the net to find the game, because quite frankly no-one other than the die-hards cared about us back then. Now though its different, we have players playing for us who are the heroes of some people. I have seen the comments you are talking about, many are from Boznia and refer to their hero, Dzeko. We are world wide now Liam and that will attract 'supporters' like those mentioned.
Which would you rather? City V Macc with only the die hards taking note or City v whoever with a team full of stars with the whole world taking note?
I know what I prefer.

OK so you'd rather be sat in a 48,000 seater stadium with the 3rd tier closed for mid-week games? You'd rather see us financially constrained by a smaller fan-base than our rivals?

Me? I'd rather see our stadium expanded to 60,00 (as per future plans) and full to capacity for every game . . but that's just me and you probably hate me for having high aspirations for the club I've supported for 50 years.

Excellent response. Made me chuckle. Not sure about York but i'm pretty sure i saw him at Macc queuing up for a pie.

Obviously they won't spoil my overall enjoyment but they may spoil moments of enjoyment. For the FA cup parade i jibbed off work at dinner time and went to the slug and lettuce on Albert square and then into Albert square soon after 4pm. Imagine if the queue to get in had been massive by lunchtime and instead of taking up a spot by the bus i was right at the back and couldn't see fuck all because some fat twat yank family on holiday from illinois were blocking my view then yes that would spoil my enjoyment.

Hopefully if the glory hunting 'problem' becomes an issue then i would like to think that City would introduce some ticket loyalty scheme for entrance to Albert Square. I would be totally gutted if after supporting city all my life i couldn't get in to Alber Square to see us parade the Premier League trophy but some 10 minute glory hunter could. I am sure many other true City fans would feel the same as me.

You wont see him queuing for a pie now mate, he doesn't like raisins.

I heard a rumour that Mansour used to run with the Abu Dhabi Guvnors, they had a reputations for kicking sand in the faces of oppo fans. Proper tasty crew he had. The DCF (Desert Camel Firm) had the biggest mob but the Abu Dhabi boys had a toe to toe and gave em all a fat lip.

Was that a camel toe to toe?

Yeah mate, they got desert wellied.

You should've been there at alty on saturday! Liam was offering out 3 guys who clearly weren't old enough to be wearing the SAAB shirt! (they must've got it from ebay or similiar) As we were stood right behind the net, when we got a corner, he also started on assaulin for being a glory hunter, who was only here for the balti pies and good weather. I knew he was a wrong un, a bad apple, a cat amongst the pigeons, when i saw him growling at anyone at wembley, that didn't sound like curly watts!

Reasonably new Man City fan myself too. Not many games shown on television here in Australia until we got pay so was never going to follow it too closely a few years ago.

When I finally had access I decided that I needed to pick a team to follow (which I know do incredibly closely). In 'Aussie Rules' back home the team I've been a member of for 70% of my life have not won the premiership since 1954 and are historically one of the poorest teams. I wanted to pick a team that was a chance to be successful but wasn't keen on jumping on one of the existing big 4 and so City was a good fit (the club I support here also has moved from their historical home ground to play at our own 60,000 seat Etihad Stadium).

Other reasons were I always thought United were a bunch of wankers (I remember being told how Ferguson threw away a winners medal to the crowd because he had so many, don't even know if that's true, but when you support a team in another code who has gone so long without success you would like a bit more respect from a winner) and I thought Adebeyor's celebration against Arsenal was hilarious.

Travelled last year and managed to see some pretty decent European games but was shattered to be in Italy when we were playing Juventus but in England not in Turin. I understand people may feel a lot of people are simply bandwagon jumping as I have somewhat done but surely any support is good support.

No problems with that mate. Welcome aboard. However please refer to my earlier comments and do not dare fly over to Manchester shortly after we win the premier league and then block my view during the parade as i would be most upset.

Agree with Liam's comments - how much fun really though will it be just picking a team that you have no connection with? Wouldn't you be better following a local team?
