Ok, I'll say something that won't be popular (and I'm saying it myself through gritted teeth): you look at that final table. Calmly and coolly, now that the Lord Mayor's show has passed by.
Liverpool are champions. They get nowhere near 90 points. Not even close. Because they're not pushed. Arsenal a cool ten points adrift.
In the six titles we won out of seven, we made getting ninety points fairly ordinary, par for the course as it were.
2017-18: 100 points;
2018-19: 98 points;
2019-20 (we won't talk about that too much; we still got 81 points, miles ahead of third, forget who it was, but miles behind Liverpool);
2020-21: 86 points, not pushed hard by second, and I think it's no coincidence, I forget who it was. Incidentally, third that year got 69 points, and it was… Liverpool! We still got a bit more than that this year, in our crappest season for a long time;
2021-22: 93 points;
2022-23: 89 points. Again, pushed quite hard, but not very, by second.
2023-24: 91 points. Pushed hard by a good Arsenal side.
But in several of those, we were pushed very hard by an excellent Liverpool. Oh and on the way, we won a few F.A. Cups and League Cups, and threw in a Champions League for good measure.
What a hell of an achievement that was!! It was scaling Everest, ambling down, and for good measure, jogging up K2.
