Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

If it wasn't for that terrible dip in mid season, we would have challenged the dippers. Injuries to key players knocked us back. Oh well, it would be boring if we won it ever season!
Funny thing is I've been saying that all season when most seemed to be saying the entire squad was past it, the manager should go and so on.

Cannot understand the mentality of those that are incapable of working out that if you're missing a few top players for even part of the season, let alone most of it, you're going to drop points on several occasions and you're not going to be challenging for the title. There's nothing more to it, we don't need a massive rebuild, there's nothing wrong, we just need to be able to field our best XI far more often than not. The fact that Arse have only just scraped second place while we also made, and should have won, the cup final proves the point. 34 y.o. Gundo being touted as MOTM and that at the end of a tough season.

Sorry, but I think all those of you who think there's now going to be a mass clearout and expect a whole host of new players coming in to replace them are going to be very disappointed. I think our "new players" are going to be Rodri, Bobb, Khusanov and Echeverri, with Vitor Reis, Foden to get back to his best and more appearances from EDS players like Simpson-Pusey, Mubama and more - they're already here.

7-2-0 after last international break. Wasn't always convincing in that run but got it over the line. Not sure City is favorites next year - maybe third choice - but definitely should be better.
Why 3rd choice? Arsenal barely scraped above us and couldn't challenge even with us playing a patched up team for half the season. No reason whatsoever we won't be challenging next season, Liverpool will only be favourites because they won it this time.

How many more points would a fully fit and firing Rodri have meant?
Dippers win by 10 with only 84 points from an Arsenal side touted as a bit special and ready to win things, and the near presence ( no offence to them) of teams like Forest says that this was not a difficult league to win if you only need to be consistent, not brilliant, which the dippers certainly did.

Well played CITY! The result was all that mattered today though.

We were in control and scored a great goal from Gundo, but if we don't put the game to bed we look so vulnerable on the break.

Eddie made some big saves and was my motm.

I can't understand why Gonzalez hasn't been playing more, he looked good again.

But I'm happy this season is over and now we can refresh the squad and go again next season!
Funny thing is that turned out not to be true, the result didn't matter at all today. We would have qualified even if we'd only drawn the midweek match v Bournemouth.

I knew the lads would get us over the line, said as much before the match and at half time, and they didn’t disappoint!

Special mention to Ilkay, who was like the Gundo of old.

But Eddie was the standout player for me. Absolutely world class in every regard from start to finish.

CL football secured and on to the CWC.

Up the blues!
Even when Eddie slipped his pass went straight to its intended target on the half way line! Loved the “give it to Eddie” pre pen kick - but then we all saw sense and bigged up Erling. Who duly obliged. I thought gundog was man of the match and I nico actually did well, some great turns to create space and surge forward. Please can someone tell Savinho to stop falling over at every touch on his shirt. Getting tiresome and many times now opposition benefit. But anyway a day of relief and celebration. And a position we would have taken all day long a few months back. Well done lads a great final push. Not sure who will still be here next time.

That's what I've been saying all season. We had that run of 11 without a win, which I think included 9 defeats, yet they only won it with less than 5 wins more. Everyone, or it felt like almost everyone at times, kept banging on about how bad the team was, how they were all past it, yada yada yada and yet the reality is we were probably only a couple of players short all season and I think with Rodri and Bobb fit - who I think would have played 30+ matches this term - we would have been there or thereabouts.

Even now they don't get it and are banging on about a rebuild, expecting half a dozen more players to come in. With the players we have signed in January and who we have got to come in, with the rest still to find their feet properly, we've only really seen Marmoush. We have Nico, Khusanov, Vitor Reis, plus Rodri and Bobb to come back and Phil to find his feet, and we're probably there or thereabouts. I wouldn't be surprised if we see 4 or 5 out and maybe just one or two in, if that.

Great win again and a great goal from Gundo. Shame Kev got old, we won’t be able to replace him. Some nice play at times today but we also gave Fulham too many opportunities.

Wasn’t a fun season, not because of no silverware, but the football has been dire. Good riddance to it.

Shame they won’t get a break again this summer but I hope we come back in August ready to go with a fit and balanced squad and the drive and desire to want it again.

Hell of an achievement to finish 3rd based on the hideous spell we had over the winter, nearly catching the self proclaimed greatest team in history (Arsenal) in the process.

I think we’ll see a lot leave and hopefully we’ll get our business done early.

It’s been emotional.

We started the season top of the form table as well.
That ridiculously bad period in between takes some explaining.
Er, not really, We were playing a patched up team with plenty of injuries, players out of position to fill the gaps, players who needed resting themselves and so on. When you upset the momentum, when you don't have your best team out you're not going to get your best results and that's what happened. All season too many of you have been trying to over-analyse it and you're still doing it.
