Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Unfortunately we’ve got no player who puts his foot on the ball and slows the game down with good distribution
I thought Cherki done well when he came and calmed certain situations down, as you said though we don't have the players to do that anymore. The amount of times the ball is given away carelessly is shocking.

At 5-1 I dared to jinx it by texting a friend GAME OVER. We nearly gave it away. How different would it feel if we’d won 5-4 after trailing Fulham 1-4??

Conclusions? Id rather not say

9 City players in the box for that and 4 (if not 5) Fulham players unmarked on the edge of the area. It’s just piss poor organisation.
We look badly coached. Awful transitions, defending, players unfit and no shape/press to our team anymore. Perhaps the players have stopped listening to Pep, though I wish they would stop listening to what ever he says at every half time with our constant 2nd half collapses. Even after a lucky 4th then 5th we still did the usual total collapse today. Other managers now out thinking Pep?

Not often a team concedes 6 goals within 4 days against 2 teams near the bottom and gets away with 6 points, either.

Definitely 'exciting' stuff, but you can't wing it for a whole season with such a porous defence. No signs of any coaching going on back there either, so can only hope for some proper defensive personnel come the window.

Still, some more City footage for Sky to use whilst selling TV rights around the world, I suppose.
Ok I get that but we can concede 10 for all I care as long as we score 11.
Don't think the defence is that bad it's the midfield what is letting us down atm.
Those three Fulham goals any team can score them,it wasn't bad defending,it happens.
anyway another 3 points in the bag

Both of the 2nd halves of the past 2 games have been chaotic to say the least. The players are either deliberately or unintentionally all over the place.
Teams are simply more fearless against us. We used to be a team you’d be lucky to not be 3-0 down after 20 mins. Last season destroyed all of that. Teams know they just have to apply pressure, turn up the heat and we’ll stumble. We also don’t have a Rodri or an Ederson or KDB to steer the ship when things like that happen. You’re looking to Bernardo and Stones …

Pep Guardiola: "Rodri will be back soon, but [Mateo] Kova will be long, and we don't have anyone [aside from Nico]. Today we proved it.

"We have to think about it, maybe Nico O'Reilly can play there, Rayan Ait-Nouri or Nathan [Ake] can play at left-back.

"We don't have [alternatives]; Tijjani [Reijnders] is more attacking positions. His position is the goal he scored, in the pockets and his movements are unstoppable - he's really good! We have to find something..."
We have felt short of players in deep midfield.

Imagine both Rodri and Kovačić being fit! Nico’s had some great games but he can’t play every minute every week.

It’s like Arsenal having Zubimnedi and Rice out.

It would have been diabolical if we’d drawn or lost. But we didn’t. And we nearly scored three further times ourselves; for one of them, we hit the post at 3-5 from a superb cross from Savinho and a good header from Haaland, an inch further left and that’s 3-6 and nobody even bats an eyelid at the subs or the loss of momentum and swing of momentum in the game.

Almost directly from us hitting the post at 3-5, they went up the other end and scored. Just one of those things. As Mancini used to say, ‘iiis football’.
Fair enough if you thought we played well and were unlucky.

I can't deny that some of their goals must have had a very low xG and we do seem to concede more than our fair share of screamers.

But I thought our midfield was diabolical and I thought our in game management was also diabolical.

I'll be careful to tone it down though because @ctwrd will probably accuse me of having extreme views again !
