Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

While we are starting to find our rhythm again going forward, Phil has the spring back in his step, I feel we are just so open down the flanks. Our full backs are midfielders so naturally they drift inside looking for the ball which leaves us exposed.

You don't replace a Kyle Walker, and certainly not with a midfielder, no matter how much he improves. Rayan Aït-Nouri needs to be starting every week and we need to buy a right back in January to shore up the defence.

Our full backs is like asking a bricklayer to rewire your house !!

Bold prediction but I think we will be top of the league going into the New Year.

Agree sadly. I think Pep now knows (especially after last chumps leagye defeat) that outside our first 11 were pretty dire. You beed 20 players now all around first 11 standard. Were miles off. So we used to play 5 or 6 "second string' players v bottom 7 or 8 clubs allowing for rest. We cant do that now. I think Pep may prioritise chumps league going forward.. kids playing in domestic cups..and a bit of a see where we are early March re league push but an eye on not letting top four get out of sight.. then he either toddles off or aggressively buys cover for dm.. a rb and ch... rodri could be our colun bell sadly

I wouldn't prioritise the CL, we're miles away from winning that, unless of course we prioritise merely for the extra revenue each round brings.
I'm afraid a top four finish and maybe a cup is the best we can hope for this season.

Our team has no left back no right back plus project players!

At moment we have Donno O’Reily Gonzales Doku Haaland the rest are passive who are great when we are possession team!

Not sure why Savinho is taking all the flak tbh. The whole team was a mess.
I don't necessarily think that Savinho is taking the flak, it's more a marker of where Pep's mind is right now that Savinho is preferred to Marmoush and that Grealish was frozen out to accommodate him despite playing nowhere near as poorly last season.

Not comparable in terms of any winning run but I think I remember during the treble season it took a last minute Haaland penalty to beat Fulham was it at home?

Plenty on here were moaning and criticising Pep and the team afterwards.

No team is perfect. Certainly not this season.

But we are currently 2nd, the highest scorers, winning when playing not at our best and Haaland broke the fastest to 100.

Cheer up!

Three points, some of our attacking game, Haaland and Foden particularly are positives from the last night game. And me attending first time post-operation since September. :)

My expectations of the majority of this group of players and Pep's current management are so low, I am just happy with another three points and move on.

I don't think you've remembered that correctly. We were down to 10 men for almost the entire game against Fulham during the treble season and the lads ran through brick walls to get that 2-1 win over the line.

Lots of praise in particular for KDB and Bernardo.

51.
Again. I see it week in week out. He is one of the worst signings to ever pull on the blue shirt.
He even manages to tackle himself along the way. He offers nothing apart from making the team weaker whenever he comes on or starts. How long do you want to give him?
Abysmal footballer simply not cut out for the rigours of Premier league football and its physicality. The fact he flirted with Spurs sums him up.
Abysmal footballer, a bit over the top don't you think ?

Just watched the goals back and what's so obvious watching their goals is how similar they all are. All of them are cracking finishes by Fulham but what's worrying is our lack of desire to close balls down that we initially defended and then break to the edge of the box for a Fulham player to be all alone to finish it. Bernardo for their 3rd is appalling, waves a foot at it and then just doesn't even attempt to close the ball down, similar from the team for Iwobis goal. The 4th again where Donna punches it clear and no one reacts apart the fulham player who scores.

It was a crazy game but until we either get Rodri back or another DM to play with Nico, we're going to continue to be wide open.

It’s been like that for ages we don’t close down crosses we don’t close down in midfield close enough it’s half heartedly..

The optimist in me is hoping that this current run of form is a mirror of the weird sequence in 23-24 when we won one game in five in the PL and drew three games in really mad circumstances (4-4 vs Chelsea, 3-3 vs Spurs, 2-2 vs Palace), while also just about scraping past Leipzig with that 3-2 comeback win in the CL.

The pessimist in me wonders if this is devolving into another run like the bad November/December period from last season, where all control is going out the window, injured players are reducing our options, and the players who are fit can't get it together because they're tired. Fingers crossed we navigate this bit.

Football is back, loved both games.
The reason we love the game is the ups and downs, highs and lows and come out of it with six points.
Even the wife who was in and out of the room ended up watching that second half engrossed and shouting at the telly.
Winning with high possession and a thousand passes is what brings in the trophy but fuck me it can be boring.
i still want to win the league of course but I want to be engrossed in the journey not entitled.
Dominance leaves only one emotion and that's disappointment with the loss while wins become normalized rather than celebrated.
And spare a thought for all the red tops who ended up having a proper bush tucker trial while city took home the stars.

Could have been a 5-8 scoreline!

Perhaps this is the game where Pep starts to seriously consider two DMs. We have to get control of the middle when the momentum shifts. It does naturally during a game, but this season I've noticed long periods of the team being stressed and under the pump. A couple of years ago the opposition would have a two/three minute spell of having a go, and we'd quickly administer a slap around the chops. Not anymore.

But a win's a win. Well done fellas.
We took off our defensive midfielder at 5-1. That was likely part of the problem.
