Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I still can't get over that incredible match last night, it's gonna be a long time before we see a match as good as that again, if ever ...... just when you thought you could take your eyes of it for a few seconds and have a breather .. you found out you couldn't!

Every credit to Fulham for their astonishing fightback, which almost succeeded ..... and all credit to a shellshocked City for hanging on, and getting three points on a difficult ground.

Now we eagerly await Sunderlands arrival on Saturday afternoon .... a team who seem to want to play football and not just defend for all they're worth.

I apologise most sincerely for celebrating a win last night when obviously we had a catastrophic loss.

I also apologise that we appear to have a team only fit for the Sunday League according to the posts I am reading on here.

After the Wolves game at home in '55 - 3-1 up with ten to go, and lose 4-3 - I had the ever-present thought that if we were gonna win a game of football we would have to be three clear going into 80 odd mins plus added time. After last night I've readjusted. The thought now is that we have to be 6-1 up before I feel comfortable.

I think Fulham got lucky with three of their goals. The ball dropped to a Fulham player who had a clear shot at goal. They could have blazed them into the Thames but hit all three very sweetly. And had Erl's inside post efforts bounce in and not out we have 'em 7-4, which I think would be about right!

Amen to that. I've lost count of the times in the past when the opposition has been at liberty to waste time and kick our players with total impunity. Andre Marriner was a grand master of turning his back on the keeper and then, 30 seconds later, with the goal kick still not taken, giving a half hearted wave over his shoulder for said keeper to hurry up, but with no sanction whatsoever. Then think about the extraordinary number of times Ederson would be booked for doing the same thing, despite City being the league's most attacking team.
That ref last night was another case in point. He held his arm up pressing an imaginary stopwatch with almost religious fervour for literally every City throw-in or goal kick, and duly added on nearly 9 minutes of injury time

or the 8 minutes + was because there was a 4 minute VAR review, 5 goals and half a dozen substitutions. Not everything is a conspiracy

I do generally agree with you though, but you're wrong about the stoppage time last night

The trouble is with Savinho is that, although he gets it right every now and again, he appears to have more bad games than good ones....and that's just not good enough if you're chasing titles.

Well the old 'Phil' is happy and back at the table now, and it's making all the difference ...... he was outstanding in that opening hour last night before he finally went off.

Fair comment, but I'm not wrong about the referee's attitude to it though, which is the bigger point I was making. When did you last see a referee at Anfield making an absolute show out of penalising Liverpool for every single second of 'time-wasting', the way that Omega miming fascist did last night?

On another night Haaland puts us 0-1 up with his first chance that hit the post and nothing else that happens after that occurs and the game ends up a boring 0-1 win and nobody mentions Kalvin Phillips maybe being an answer or Pep needing sacking. Yet we’d not have ended up with one of the great games of football this decade.

It was just one of those once-every-five-years mad games that was all about great attacking moves and cracking goals. It doesn’t need overanalysing, just watch the full game back and enjoy it.

My suggestion was firmly tongue in cheek. It was posted in another thread that got merged called “An alternative perspective”.

Having said that, he’d have probably played as well as Stones did in the 6 last night.
