More from Manchester City defender John Stones speaking to BBC Sport: "It's not disappointing. As defenders, we're over the moon with the clean sheet. It's always difficult when they play five at the back and they caused us problems.Manchester City defender John Stones speaking to BT Sport: "We said after the Champions League game that we wanted another clean sheet and to keep that run going. We knew what we were up against and we set out from the start.
"Every game we play in, we can always score more and we're frustrated with ourselves but it's good just to get three points. I'm sure the boys, the strikers, will be frustrated with the chances they haven't taken but it's three points.
"The manager demands a lot from us and expects a lot from us. We're all fighting for our places. When we get our chance, you have to take it. It gives us healthy competition. We know what's expected of us. We know if we don't deliver, there's always somebody fighting for that spot. It's what's done us so well in the last five years. Everybody has high standards and we try to keep them there.
"I said before the game it was another step forward and a chance to put a mark on the season. We're solely focused on each game and this one we did, came through with three points and everybody's words transpired onto the pitch. We have to keep this winning mentality going."
Good to see JS taking in what Pep is saying, done really well and hope he keeps it up all season...
We can if we win.We can't afford to miss those chances next week
Tosin Adarabioyo was great too, quality academy product.Putting aside the fact we couldn't score in a brothel......that was an excellent performance, particularly the first half.We ran out of steam a bit in the last 15/20 mins or so,and i would have liked to see subs being made, but still we battled brilliantly and passionately.
Difficult to criticise anyone, although Sterling still looks off,but a special mention for Mendy who looks a different player, and also Mahrez, who has clearly given his head a wobble and both he and our team look all the better for it.
Stones carrying on his great form, and Jesus was awesome too, working his nuts off for the team and doing the job of 2 men.
Top 4 too!! ;-)
Would have liked to see some of the fantastic build up rewarded with the finish but overall can’t have many complaints.
Mahrez the best player on the pitch for the second week running.
I’m sure there will be moaning about lack of subs but I expect around 8 changes for the midweek game with players getting the rest they need and others getting the minutes they need.
Another good day at the office. Onwards and upwards.
Good win, and a clean sheet.
Quite easily should have been 5 or 6.
Some really poor finishing. Sad to say, but we wouldn’t see the dippers missing chances like those.
It’s more to protect tired legs & potential injuriesBecause Pep will want to play all the players that didn’t come on today midweek with a group of EDS players. What’s the point in putting pointless minutes into the legs of Bernardo, Foden etc when they’re going to get a full game midweek?
And worth far more to us if a key player gets injured.
He was,i mentioned him a couple of times in the match thread for being so.Tosin Adarabioyo was great too, quality academy product.
Onwards and upwards.
Subs Pep?
We've just played in midweek. Imagine if a player had got injured. I didn't understand that.
KDB still looks below par. On the other hand Mahrez was again on top form.
