Fulham (H) Post Match Thread

Very good performance that deserved another couple of goals.

With regards to the lack of substitutions I think Pep has changed tactics - I think this games 7 changes will be a full 11 on Wednesday. Whilst us fans would have liked fresh legs and a late push for more goals Pep’s head will be thinking this game is won and the lads on the pitch are managing the tempo well.

Fair play to Fulham and how they approached the game. Nice to see the respect shown between the two coaches at the end after the actions of the prick at Porto.

It’s more to protect tired legs & potential injuries

That’s what Pep was doing today. Protecting the players on the bench today from coming on and putting needless minutes into their legs. Everyone who played today will get a rest midweek. It’s good squad management from Pep, I don’t know why people can’t see it.

Is KDB aiming for the posts and crossbars? I would love to see stats how many times he hit them

Job done, if wasteful at times.
8 clean sheets out of last 16 games, only lost 2 of last 17 games. Draws, and 3 pens against Leicester, have created our “crisis,” but our table position now starting to look more normal, as we come into the meat of the PL season.

Thought Rodri, and esp Gundo, BOSSED the middle of the park, with some ridiculous touches to keep the ball moving, shift the ball and passage of play. Gundo tried to squeeze a few passes through late in the game and they didn’t come off, but playing him ahead of Rodri as we move forward snd having him slide back in on defence is working very well.

This squad is starting to give Pep selection headaches, which is exactly where he wants it, as expressed in his recent “show me” comments.

Midweek game helps keep the squad on their toes and play a youngster or two, and allows the Derby starters to get some R&R.

Hope Pep will be ruthless with subpar performers to reignite some of the passion needed to wear the shirt on a regular basis.

The rest of the season begins now!

They can get injured training instead, occupational hazard.

We are in the champions league for the money.

You’re right, fuck it, let’s play our strongest 11 midweek even though the group is already won and we’ve got a derby the following weekend.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BT Sport: "It's important to get a good run of points. For the chances we had, yes [we should have scored more], but it was the same in Porto. It's important that we won and that defenders don't make mistakes and we don't gift goals.

"We know the quality from Kevin [de Bruyne] in the goals and assists. He's so important for us. Just look at how he runs and fights as a modern footballer today. He is an example of this. He put all this together and every season it's massive.

"It's important to win games and clean sheets are a good fact, especially with the amount of chances we created again. The Fulham physicality was impressive. Scott Parker always has something tricky, you know, he did well against Leicester. Now everyone can beat everyone. That's why it's important for the victory and no injuries to go into the Champions League with fresh players.

"We have to wait until the end of the weekend but what's important is the feeling in the team. We will improve."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to BBC Sport: "We struggled at the beginning of the season for many reasons. Now four games, four clean sheets. It's so important for us to maintain this solidity.

"The finishing was wasteful. We know we have to improve this, but it's important to keep creating the chances. In the last 20 minutes we lost too many simple balls, which is a problem. We have to do the simple things better. That is the next step.

"Sterling scored a goal and won a penalty. It's important for the players up front to be scoring goals.

"This season looks like there will be a lot of teams in contention. Everyone can beat everyone. In this month it was important to get qualification for the Champions League, now we focus on the Premier League. It will be a long season."

Lot of short-sighted people perhaps?

Pretty easy albeit I’m still always nervous at 2-0! Thoughts mahrez was really good today and, shock horror, worked really hard. Some fantastic touches. Gundog just beat him for motm IMO. Great to see us up to fourth (for now) and just three points behind what the media would have you think are runaway leaders. Bring on the derby and play the kids midweek. Odd not to use subs but then that must mean most of today’s 11 won’t get onto pitch for Marseille. Well done boys.

I think 31% is generous!!!

Excellent post, my thoughts too. I’d guess that at most we will have 2 or 3 from that 11 who start on Weds.

Stroll in the park. Nice to see the clean sheets start to rack up and it can't be too much longer before Ruben scores can it? Good to rest a few, 3 points off the top and people telling us we are on a downward spiral - the fools. Onto the next one.

Hardly anyone that played today will start in midweek and I imagine some key players won't even be asked to warm the bench. Wouldn't be surprised if even Steffen gets a UCL debut.

Cancelo aside, I'd expect all of today's players to feature next weekend so it's understandable that Pep gave them all 90 minutes.

Shame we didn't score more and our shooting from range in particular drives me mad but Fulham were very organised and managed to cut out a lot of crosses.
11 changes, dont have a clue why no substitutions????

Moans like fuck yet doesn't do 1 change.

Is he basically saying to the bench "you want to start then get playing well"
Stones class again, Has Pep told Laporte your not No 1 anymore with that shit performance v Spurs?

Anyways I expect the starting 11 at UTD will be Cancello at LB & Walker back in the rest will be the same

No need to play anyone on Wednesday who starts Saturday

Steffen
Garcia Laporte Ake Zinchenko
Fernandinio
Doyle Bernardo
Phil Delap Torres
