Full Backs?

bad move imo but at least kolarov will be out!!

I agree mate....we have a pattern of keeping players past their best...players that are clearly not at the same level! This shouldnt be seen as "hate" on a player, it should be seen as just good business to move them on before their contracts run out. Players like Zab and Yaya have been a big part of our winning seasons but the signs are there that they slowing down and we should be looking to bring in new exciting talent while we can.....I personally feel last summer was the right time to sign replacements for Zab and Kolarov and we would have then seen a smooth change over this summer when/if they left....imo!;)

Clichy was excellent towards the end of last season, and can see him thriving under Guardiola. Don't think we'll be signing another left back this window, even when Kolarov goes. I expect either Angelino or Zinchenko (or Delph at a push) will be back up.

This is my thought aswel Ric, if you watch Guardiola teams he seems to have fullbacks who instead of crossing a ball just pass it into the box (don't waste possession)

The guy had a rest for about 3 months of the season last year and was utterly woeful. There's some absolutely ridiculous revisionism going on.
Mainly from you with your completely over the top description of him.

Why does everyone seem to think zinchenko plays as a full back, not having a go just he doesn't play there for Ukraine he played there very little for ufa i mean delph has played more out wide and can't imagine anyone thinking he is a wide midfielder, cant understand why people assume he is a replacement for kolarov, has the club or someone indicated he will play there?

You say Delph at a push, but from what I've read Pep often plays his fullbacks either side of his pivot, more as extra midfielders, so converted midfielders like Delph or Fernandinho on the other side may be more suited than conventional full backs. for some games.

There's nothing over the top. People need to stop sentiment cloud the fact that a player is over the hill. For me, I want the best for this football club and I fail to see how retaining the same four fullbacks takes us closer to the elite clubs.

What people need to do is stop accusing those who don't see the 'woeful' player they do as being full of sentiment and it clouding their view. Also making out that you want what's best for the club so by default I don't is a crock of shite.
You won't get any argument from me about the need for new full backs, I've said it often enough over the last 12 months - but yes, your descriptions of players do tend to go over the top.

This is spot on for me. Too many think Clichy/Sagna are the way forward but I disagree. Both completely average and need upgrading. I think all 4 fb's will be gone by next summer.

I do too. And what's frustrating is people affording certain players more time even though there's clear evidence they're on the wane.

If Zabaleta stays, he might not,and we dont buy a right back something has changed, that can only mean Pep has changed his mind. If its to play Zabaleta than he has seen something and who are we to say he is over the hill. On the otherhand it might just be he fancies somebody else at rb , Maffeo, Fernandinho, who knows, not us because we haven't seen them training.
