Full Backs?

As much as any full back has to defend, we need players who can offer a genuine attacking threat and finish. In that respect, it might be easier converting other players into full backs than buying recognised players for those positions.

Left back would be my priority, but if the right one isnt available I don't think we should buy a stopgap which would block a place in the summer. If fit I'd like to see Delph tried I wonder if thats why talk of him leaving on loan has gone quiet.
 
Gaya is as bad as Clichy if not worse.
Cancelo is a shite version of Kolarov.
Rather wait for Grimaldo and Benjamin Henrichs in the summer.But would take sb like Amavi currently as our left side is a shambles.

Tierney came through Celtics youth system, at least know the stuff you're talking about before shitting on a player. The Alli comparison is correct in regards to Tierney.

Great, and he's still there. In a shite league.

And if he's good, Hull can buy him. Then West Ham.

Then, if he's still showing promise, we can move for him. Our business model can take a hit of a few million for a player ready to slot into our squad rather than buy him on the cheap and loan him out and hope he develops.

He could be very, very good. But we shouldn't be buying him yet.
 
Watched Schalke yesterday and that left back Kolasnic? Just a bigger Clichy. More brawn than brains. Didn't like pressure, would just kick it away.

He's 19. You're asking for players to develop before coming here but using that against Tierney who is staying at Celtic to maintain game time. I fully believe Tierney wouldn't be playing as a bad as Clichy has been. This is the reason many bring up players like this and think, why do they not deserve a chance when Clichy does? It's not as black and white as the league they're playing in or who they play for, a good player is a good player and if you watch Tierney he has everything you'd want in a full back. Van Dijk didn't need time to develop at Saints, he performed very well in his first season, he'd have been a smart buy for us especially if you compare him to what we have bought. Gabriel Jesus won't need time to develop at a lower side, he has the ability to come in now. Alli was the same. You could run down a whole list of players. As I said it ain't black and white. Whats the point in having "great" Scouts if we only sign players who have moved around and shown they can do it in better leagues? I could do that job. If Tierney becomes a flopz I'll hold my hands up and admit I was wrong about him but point remains, not everyone has to climb the same ladder to the top.

Van Dijk could have come here and crumbled under the expectation, just like 20 other players have. Like it or not this happens. We used to laugh at all the rags flops, but the reality is we're in the same position these days and some players can't make the mental transition to the next level.

Tierney impressed me against us, but that's not enough. Stick him at Burnley and lets see how he deals with having Aguero, Hazard or Sanchez attacking him every single week. Even then, it's still a risk. But for us at least it's something to go on, because we can't afford to fill slots in the squad with Scott Sinclairs and Wilfred Bony's.
 
He maybe better on the right. Right foot dominant in the tackle, which could get him in trouble as a left back.

Nevertheless, great left foot crosses, so clearly can pass, cross and shoot with both feet.

Looks strong and athletic. No real footage of aerial ability tho.

Could be a good addition

I do agree many players can't transition well and need stepping stones but there are some who don't, that's why I'm saying it's not black and white in terms of development. I feel Tierney is an option Pep should explore unless a top quality full back comes into the equation. I've not seen Grimaldo play so can't comment and by all accounts Gaya can't defend and the Schalke lad we've been linked, I watched yesterday and doesn't look good in pressure situations at all, reminded me of Clichy. To be fair, Scott Sinclair was the worst and most ridiculous signing I've ever witnessed. We got rid of Bellamy and signed this lad. Bony was never going to fit, just not a good enough player and Pellegrino rarely changed tactics, poor I'll conceived signings. I'd like to think Tierney in terms of position is a step up from those 2.

Nice, I did see him play against Spurs and he outshone both Spurs' full backs. Looked unstoppable, great blend of pace, power, athleticism and footballing ability.
