Full Backs?

Joao Cancelo from Valencia for me.
I like his level of skill and speed on the ball, but his brain sometimes is Kolarovish.

I'm leaning more towards:
RB
Perreirra
Karsdorp
Weiser

Perreirra is the best fullback at a non top 10 club. Simply put, we should go get him. 2 years running now, he is no flash in the pan.

Karsdorp seems like the epitome of a modern fullback. In the mold of Lahm. At worst, say we miss out on Perreirra, we should consider him strongly. The rise in level of competition might make him start slow but he'll grow into It quickly.

I'd also take a punt on : Mitchell Weiser because he is technically sound and has history with Pep. Cancelo will be a distant 4th for me.

LB:
Okay we are not getting Alaba (I personally don't rate him that highly) but also he already plays for a top club. Unfortunately so does Alex Sandro, who has been outstanding so far this year.

So what do we do then? Well here are some thoughts on how to approach it.

Top of my list:
Daly Singraven
Alex Grimaldo

Al Shahrani
Kostas Stafylidis

Daly Singraven: This to me is quite funny, for all intent and purpose he is Zinchenko playing at left fullback. He is an attacking winger with great ball skill and vision playing Leftback. The very same role I argued Zinch should have gotten in the summer.
This kid will kill it here and I hope he is played at LB most of the season for Ajax so he gets the experience. He has what it takes to become quite special at LB.

Grimaldo: currently injured or was last I checked. Like hi. Coz of his history with Barca and his general technique. And also we've been linked :)

Also Shahrani and Stafylidis are punts if we can't get either of the above 2. But honestly I'd sooner drop Zinchenko into LB first and backing him up with Shahrani or Stafy. But will take the above 2 as starters.

Shahrani is a Marcelo like dribbling fullback from Al Bilal. I find his style quite impressive. But he is a project.

Stafylidis on the other hand is doing pretty well for Ausburg right now. Similar energy to the young Clichy, with better footskills.

So that's 7 options for the fullback spots. Also I think everyone is under 25 on that list.

Negotiations have already begun between City and Bayern Munich over a deal to bring in left-back Juan Bernat (23) for next season. [AS]

I wouldn't be opposed to Bernat, ball retention would increase ten fold compared to Clichy.

@Dax777

What's your opinion on Henrichs? We've been linked with him recently. Seems like an option for RB.
To be fair, I haven't watched as much football this year as I have in years past. And I haven't seen much of him, but he fits that mold. A Midfielder who plays fullback. I like the prototype.

Dunno if there's any truth to it...

Already tracked by Chelsea and Manchester United, Portuguese international right-back Nélson Semedo (23), according to UK sources, has been targeted by Manchester City as well. Currently on a deal with Benfica until June 2021, the player has been recently linked to Bayern Munich, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain as well. An 80million euros exit clause is set on him.

At that price he is a waste of money.

Just saying we should not be spending 80 million on a fullback. The scouts need to do better.

If we do go in for him it won't be for €80 million. Most of the Portuguese clubs have ridiculous buy out clauses put into their players contacts to fend off interest but realistically they'd sell for less than half that sum. I don't think we'd be spending the quoted price there on any player let alone a young full back from the Portuguese league.

Hope not. Kid looks rapid as fuck on YouTube. And even looks more impressive in his defensive videos. But 80 million feels painful.

Manchester City are making a serious move to sign Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam (25), also wanted by PSG and Bayern Munich. [Rai Sport]

Monaco have just signed a LB for €8m - quite a bit of money for them.

Possibly Benjamin Mendy (22) or Djibril Sidibe (24, plays LB & RB) on the move? Both are very bright prospects and already miles better than what we've got.

I'm actually pretty gobsmacked that we're sat here with a few days to go and nothing at all has even come close to happening.

The brazilian LB Monaco signed is pretty highly rated. Apparently we were interested but Monaco wanted him more

We aren't going to sign a FB this winter.
-no reason on earth it's taken this long, if we were going to.
$$$ is there, we don't have Fair Play concerns, deal would have been done for someone, if we were going to make one.

We'll roll with what we have, Pep will convert someone like Delph, or we will just so something creative with the FB/CB's we have now.

I'm not. Pep indicated very early on that we would be in for nobody. Much and all as we'd all love someone in, I didn't see any reason not to believe him.

Nice to see us just sitting on our thumbs
