Full Backs?

We couldn't score one goal against Everton, is it because of our full backs ?

Chances should have been converted before the first Everton goal and even before half tine. After the second went in they played deeper and on the counter making it harder to breakdown and score, drawing our creative players further from their goal. The goals, in particular the first ,were down to Clichy so in a way, yep, fullbacks made it difficult to score.

I understand that Clichy's pass lead to their first goal, but no player will have 100% pass completion in a game.

Clichy was at fault for a few of the goals through passing, positioning, inability to react and defensive discipline. He needs replacing as it's not a one off. The same players are making the same mistakes, which aren't system related, just fuck ups. The Left backs in particular offer nothing going forward or defensively, and it's been that way for years. Everton targeted our left side and scored all the goals there. It needs addressing

I think you just answered him mate

This won't be popular but there is a decent full back at the swamp who is out of favour , Burger Boy was an excellent footballer at Southampton and he has'nt become a bad player overnight it is doubtful PEG will sanction any transfer (even though its the Dippers are their main rivals and not us). Might be worth a cheeky bid , if he can regain his form with the help of Pep , he is potentially better than anything we have.

Dont want anyone who think they've made it after a bug move and puts on weight easily plus after his bad injury wouldn't touch him with a ten foot barge pole.

Agreed and not because he's at the filth. He seems to have an attitude problem and his fitness and weight have been questioned which is shocking for a young professional.

I really rate Gaya but he does have defensive weaknesses and I can guarantee you he'd need time to settle in the prem and there's no way the fans will afford him that.
I think he would be fantastically suited to this league as a wing back (Cancelo on the other side wouldn't be too bad either) and this deal could be on . Looking at Pep's philosophy I would guess if will be 3 at the back with something like Stones, Van Dijk and Laporte.

When you can sign the fullbacks of the fourth worst defense in La Liga in a 50m+ swoop, you've just got to.

I think Gaya and Cancelo would both be good additions, both can shift and both are very good technically, they play almost as wingers which would be perfect for Pep's 3 at the back. Wouldn't get ripped off either (in comparison to Rose) and both are big improvements on what we have (not hard).

Would take Cancelo though interestingly he has been playing RW recently(Montoya RB). Gaya is just naff on top of being constantly injured, no thanks.

Doesn't surprise me that Pep's interested in Cancelo, looks like Dani Alves did at Barca in Pep's days, this season:

Would love that rumour to be true, massive fan of Cancelo and if Gaya can get back to where he was when he first broke into the Valencia team, before the shitshow of Peter Lim managed to completely destroy the team, they could be our fullbacks for a long time. Both better going forward than back, but more importantly they both have the athleticism to actually attack and defend. The balance of Cancelo and Maffeo as our two long term righbacks would be outstanding, one for all out attack and the other for more defensive games.

Valencia fans would probably literally riot if it happened though, they are right on the edge as it is.
