Funny stats to upset United fans

Highest crowd at the swamp was for an FA Cup semi-final, not for a game involving the rags. Think it was Wolves v Grimsby but CBA checking.
It was indeed… 76,962 for a 1939 FA Cup semifinal.

And United’s biggest ever crowds were only achieved by City fans swelling the attendances because both City and United fans were going to watch United when they played at Maine Road, with City fans getting a double football fix and to support our old legend Matt Busby.

United’s average attendance for the decade of the 1930s at Old Trafford was just 20,005. City’s average attendance for the decade of the 1930s at Maine Road was 30,690. Then United’s average attendance in the three post-War years they spent at Maine Road was 49,214 yet it moved down to 39,831 in their first three years back at Old Trafford and they even won the league within those years.

So United’s biggest ever attendance of 81,962 against Arsenal at Maine Road in 1948 was down to both sets of fans attending.

Don’t know if it’s true but…. When Roy Keane ended Alfie Haaland’s career, Haaland senior went on to make more money than Keane made in his entire man united career - just by transferring his son to Manchester City. :-)

Never ended it either despite what they say, he played 4 days later

^ on my point from above; without City, United would either still be a minor club or wouldn’t even exist.

Before our player Matt Busby went to them, United were nothing.

Their only trophies before Busby were won with City players. We agreed to give them first dibs on our banned players in 1906, with whom they won 2 league titles and an FA Cup. Without them, United wouldn’t have won any trophies at all in their first 46 years as a club until Busby went there.

We voted with them when Manchester Central wanted to join the FL, which kept them in business. Without us doing that there would be no Manchester United today because they were in the shit and Central were getting bigger crowds than them as an amateur club and had better backers. United were floundering down the bottom of the Second Division and getting gates as low as 3,000 which saw them being insolvent and they were under threat of being voted out of the Football League. They couldn’t even afford new kits. But Central not getting voted in saw their backers back-out, Central disappeared, and United’s crowds started to increase again.

Matt Busby had a trial at City but told City that he was thinking of emigrating to America with his Mother. So City offered him a one year contract and told him he could go to America after the year if he still wanted to but we were so impressed with him we offered him a full time contract during that year and he decided not to join his Mother in America and stayed with City. If City hadn’t shown so much interest and faith in him, he’d have gone to America and never have ended up turning United from nothing (nearly going bust and getting 11,000 average attendances in the 1930s) into the biggest club in the country.

We allowed them to use Maine Road after Old Trafford was bombed. They used it for 4 years just as City had been relegated and just as Busby started building a decent side. This lead to United sucking away our support somewhat as City fans were watching both teams but enjoying seeing ex-City star Busby at another local club playing in our own stadium and the better team at the time more. United wouldn’t have gained that support without being on our turf.

What have we got in return off the cunts? A banner mocking our longest trophy drought (but not Manchester’s longest trophy drought, as their 37 years is longer!)?

I wanted to find some stats on how many times Ferguson's united scored 5 v how many times we've scored 5 under Pep, but haven't managed to find the figures anywhere.

If anyone knows of a decent site or has the figures, I'm sure it would be interesting.

They are the 2nd most successful club in English football, so surely that must mean there have been years of years of successful managers.

Fact one - only 3 United managers have won the English league title. City’s last three managers have achieved that.

Fact two - Their third most successful manager is Jose Mourinho.
