Future Strikers

Been (relatively) lucky with Aguero’s injuries, but he’s just hit 32 and might be out for a while now.

Replacing Toure, Hart, Kompany, Silva has all been difficult (KDB, Ederson, Laporte, Bernardo/Foden) but we’ve done well. Now We’ve got arguably the hardest job, with replacing the most prolific striker in the league, when goalscoring strikers are at an all time low (really struggling to think of a player under 27 who consistently hits 20 league goals a season).

Love Jesus and he adds a huge amount to the team, but he’s not a 25 goals a season striker (at least not yet). Interesting who we go for...
Agreed, we are very good at replacing players, Kompany aside, think he caught a few off guard after his Leicester heroics, which probably confirmed to himself that it was the right time,I’d argue this summer was earmarked for that initially. I’m sure the club have multiple avenues to go down regarding replacements for Sergio,Vinnie & possibly Leroy. As fans we should be excited by this as very rarely have the club taken a backward step in the last 12 years & neither has Pep

If City are looking for a false 9 type striker.... I'm pretty sure Cole Palmer would love to take 3rd choice striker & is highly regarded. Havertz would be ideal mind

He is an Attacking Midfielder. That's his primary position just like Foden.

We have no False 9 for 3rd choice, we have to buy one.

When you're young it's easier to adapt, and if thats what the club want they should look to someone like him, and he's played up front in academy games too. It's definitely possible

do you want to play him at Defensive midfield too? I'm sure he could play it no problem.

his main position that he has played most of his career is Attacking Midfielder. Just like Foden & Just like Bernardo Silva.

Bernardo Silva told ManCity.com: "You have some areas on the pitch where you feel a little bit more comfortable, but me I've played almost all my career on the right side as an offensive midfielder, or number 8. That's where I feel more comfortable."

all 3 of them can play everywhere. Pep doesn't stick players out of position just for the sake of it. It's either tactical or because he was forced to.

Cole Palmer has been playing as a striker/false 9 several times for the U18s this season

Ezzy, why do you belittle and berate people who disagree with you? I simply made the point he's a highly regarded AM prospect that could play up front as a false 9 - the difference between AM and False 9 is not a major leap for an 18 year old to get used to. And the fact he's played as that for the academy sides shows he's capable. Don't be such an arse because you have a different opinion.

And FWIW, if Cole Palmer was told he was playing in the first team, he'd jump at the chance regardless. These players want to play, they don't care if its out of position. Thats why we see Phil and Jesus play on the left. Its why Cancelo has played LB before, its why we've seen Bernabe play at LW. Players, but especially the youngsters take their opportunity even if its out of their regular position. If Pep wants Palmer to play at False 9, I don't see him saying 'no, I'm only an attacking midfielder', he'd say yes thank you very much.

It was literally just a suggestion.

My apologies, I don't mean belittle or berate anyone. Sorry if it comes off like that.

the main thing I was pointing out was this:
If City are looking for a false 9 type striker.... I'm pretty sure Cole Palmer would love to take 3rd choice striker & is highly regarded
this would mean promoting Palmer instead of buying a False 9.
I was just pointing out why it shouldn't be the case.

Because by default the type of players that Pep wants are the ones similar to Foden, and these type of players have some areas on the pitch where they feel a little bit more comfortable as Bernardo Silva Pointed out above:

But they are giving freedom on the pitch, because every outfield players can play everywhere:

and the aim of our academy is to produce players that can "play everywhere" like Phil Foden:

So yes Cole Palmer has played False 9 before, but should we turn him into a False 9 just because he's capable? or should we buy someone who can play it?

Tommy Doyle is a Central Midfielder, but as shown by the Carabao cup game against Southamptom he can also play defensive midfielder. Should we turn him Into a DM because he's capable? or buy someone who can play it?

the good thing is that in case of an emergency we know we can rely on them to cover. THERE IS a pathway in the team for them & these players can play everywhere but there is no need to permanently move them out of position
(just to not have to sign anybody).

Sorry I just love asking questions, it's a good way to understand someone's point of view.

Not a pop at Ezzy personally however, this attitude seems to have become more common here over the past few years. I don't recall this being quite as prevalent when I first joined BM. Quote a few newer members think every discussion is a fight and attack those thst don't agree with them wholeheartedly. Perhaps it is a commentary on social media, in general.
