Gabri Veiga

English translation here for those who can't be arsed, it's a good breakdown and should be read. I felt it needed to be roughly translated (I used Google and added/changed a few words were I thought they might help out a bit) so here goes.

Very insightful and very kind of you for posting it here for us to better understand Gabri Veiga, thank you @CeltaVigo

At Celta de Vigo I saw (David) Silva play 19-20 years old and see Veiga now at the same age. The positions of Silva and Veiga are similar, Silva oriented to the left and Veiga oriented to the Right. The style of play is a little different, Silva his distribution more horizontal-back, pressure, defense and less goal, Veiga his more vertical distribution, pressure, defense, a little more goal, knows how to get into the area and take advantage to score. Everyone knows that the vertical distribution is harder vs the horizontal-back, so it is possible that the % statistics have fewer passes, but Gabri Veiga does not miss many passes. That specialty is highlighted by the press and specialists, the typical old game of Box-to-Box directly vertical, not like players who spam with horizontal backward passes. He started in many positions of winger, midfielder and second striker with our former boss Coudet, and plays well, but does not win games. After the World Cup the new coach changes the position to midfielder and in 14 games only 3 losses, the 3rd best (most in form?) team in Spain. Now he plays with Fran Beltran (24 years old) in midfield, in that position:

--------Larsen----Blades---------
Torre--Beltran--Veiga---Carles

It should be noted that Beltran is not a defensive midfielder, he is a simple midfielder, this shows that Veiga's defensive work is important in the team. I think he has a lot of possibilities to improve because at Celta he doesn't have the best players to work with, Carles usually dribbles and shoots, Larsen is young and doesn't score, he only has 1 goal all season. It's hard for Gabri Veiga to find more assistance if the attackers aren't really good. I think if he's playing on another team, he has better numbers. He does not play in the Spanish national team because the Spanish team is rare, they prefer substitutes of the big teams Madrid, Barcelona, Atl. Madrid vs starting players from other teams. But the last game against Scotland proves that the players are not the best in Spain.
Insultingly dismissive of David Silva as a sideways passing merchant imo, unless something was lost in tbe translation

Yeah I agree I think it's something definitely lost in translation as things normally can be and although I've never seen this Veiga in all honesty, some words had to be added or swapped out but something I'll say is Yaya Toure was to use @CeltaVigo's very own words a proper world class vertical passer, Yaya also never missed many forward passes he was an excellent reader of what was happening in front of him while being a fast thinker, in passing terms maybe this Gabri Veiga fella is a little similar to what Yaya was like with his judgment of passing just without the strength and powerful runs, maybe he compensates for that with great movement that'd still be extremely useful for many sides if so as passing is an aspect of Yaya's game that was so underrated. Toure's passing was overshadowed by his power and pace on runs and goals being taken notice of more but his ability to dictate play was amazing, whether from deep or all the way up the pitch while roaming forward his precise "vertical" passing was key to our success in those early years.

It can't be overstated how important David Silva was with his "sideways" passing too it was so important he kept possession to help bring teammates into play, plus using his elite dribbling skills and movement to avoid being dispossessed his teammates totally needed what he offered us. To me Silva truly wasn't as appreciated from a world football point of view as he should've been and he's a little overshadowed in many ways by Iniesta for Spain, but I genuinely think without him David could've slotted into his role perfectly well and that in no way plays down Iniesta's importance to Spain either, both were truly world class operators with some very similar attributes yet fairly different styles who could've probably played each others respective roles effectively.

Xavi said David was easily one of Spain's greatest ever talents without a shadow of a doubt and Iniesta was equally in awe of his talents too in his praise of him, he was just incredible and I'm sure this Celta Vigo fan was mesmerised too as he won rave reviews while there on loan, he was truly a sight to behold as far as world class players go as unlike most where you can see their impact like with goals or assists, you had to see him to truly appreciate how gifted he was the assists and goals these stats people overhype don't do him justice, he's the sort of player stats become irrelevant to as they never tell the full story of how important he was to enable our team to do what it did.
