Gabriel Jesus return from injury

With the players available it seems a return to 3-5-2 would be a suitable option. Suddently we have a glut of centre halves and two full backs more suited to pushing on.

We can only play that when Mendy is fit.....Pep pretty much said as much when Mendy originally got injured

Course we can play that way. His point about Mendy being he was able to provide the width and the attacking threat neccessary if you go to a 3-5-2. Zinchenko similarly can offer the width and threat going forward which say a Delph is less likely to offer. It is not a perfect solution but a solution all the same.

Zinchenko as well as he has done, doesn't have the athleticism that Mendy does...this is what Pep directly referred to when Mendy got injured...Im not knocking Zinchenko at all, he has done brilliantly.

Since Mendy has been out we havent played 3-5-2 at all (I don't think).....I don't think we will see it again until he is back

We havent had the centre backs we have available now though. With Sane out a front 2 of Aguero and Sterling, then 352 fits, Zinchenko isnt Mendy but would be bettter than Delph as a wing back.

We know that a 3-5-2 with Zimchenko will not be as stong as a 3-5-2 with Mendy but at the minute its looking at formations to win matches in addition to resting players.

Once Stones is back we have four fit centre halfs which gives us a bit of flexibility to rest creative players further forward as compared to other positions we have a glut of players.

Only time will tell but its the simplest way to rest players and now there are 12 league games less and we would still win the league with a record of 7 wins and 5 defeats it could give ample rest to our key players who win us matches. I think personally Pep will use it at some point.

Oh yes I know you’re not having a dog at Zinchenko.

yeah, I'd like to see 3-5-2 with Zinchenko. He's not Mendy but as long as he does the "stick to the byline at all costs" routine, then it will still be quite effective imo.

going forward he would be....not sure about going backwards however

Why has this thread - page 34 - 38 turned into a "tactics , formations etc........" conflab.

Good news is the brace is off. He's understandably put on a bit of weight being out for so long. Reminds me of Ronaldo in so many ways. The injuries, the physique. Just needs to get back to his rip-roaring best. Think the Carabao might be beyond him still.
Would be great if all 3 of Sane, Jesus and Mendy were playing for the last 8 weeks of the season together.
