Gabriel Jesus

The thing about Jesus is, that even if he doesn't start scoring loads straight away, he's a serious footballer & a real fucking grafter, a fighter.

He's got himself the job now of No 9 for Brazil, but some of his best performances were prior to that, when he played out wide. He's fast, tricky, intelligent, tracks back like a fullback & gets into scoring positions in the box.

He'd be a huge boost to the squad even if his goalscoring record was below average.

If he settles in quickly, & produces what he's capable of, in any position, even if he doesn't score many straight away, well he'd be worrying the shit out of me if he was playing against us, put it that way.

He is exactly what we need. As is Sane.

How do you compare him to Martial ?

I see Martial as having decent pace & reasonable football ability, gets in the box & so far, not much else. No evidence of a particularly good football brain or any particular fighting spirit in there.

Jesus has more ability, more pace, more attitude & crucially, is a far far more intelligent footballer imo.

Unless I've read him totally wrong, I would put him ahead of players such as Aguero & Tevez too, in the football intelligence area. He's happy to touch the ball once in a move wheras Neymar for example, wants 37.

Watched him in every game in the Olympics. Didn't particularly played well in the first few games and I got a bit worried but then the whole Brazil team were poor. Still light years behind Neymar obviously but everyone can see the potential is there. Done brilliantly for the Brazil senior team when he was called up so pressure won't get too him. But I still predict a slow start as he get used to a new country and a new league. Hopefully fans will still support him when he has bad games.

I completely agree. The team seriously needs some young players who will give it everything on the pitch and spur on some of our senior players to do the same thing. That intensity is key if we want to win playing the style of football Pep wants to see. Our slow passing and build up play at times is similar to watching Mancini's City when we had little width and often struggled to break down the opposition. With the players we have there's so much talent to move the ball with more intensity. The trickery Sane and Jesus have in their locker means that defenders become uncertain on whether to keep their shape and stay tight, or drop off for fear of being beaten for pace.

From what I've seen of him during the Olympics and for Brazil he's an incredibly wise footballer, his awareness, his timing and movement set him apart and are the reason he's done so well so young. Far too often he was actually starved of the ball in the Olympics while others took far too many touches and slowed the play down. When things were sped up, he was often the catalyst. On several occasions he was back making tackles near his own box before tearing up the pitch looking to score and get on the end of crosses etc.

His awareness is such that if a player looks to press him, with a drop of the shoulder or quick control he'll spin them and be right at their defence.

Yet again, for me, as with games against Liverpool, Tottenham at home will be a real test of how well the team are settling into Pep's style. They'll press and hunt the ball and previously we've given it away in silly areas because we've been forced to pass the ball around the defence and midfield. Players like Sane and Jesus will look to get past the opposition player and in doing so it allows us to get on the front foot. I'm looking forward to his arrival and Sane's return.

Jesus, Sané and Sterling are a breath of fresh air after three years of watching Navas do pretty much the same thing. We need players who go past defenders.

Hope he makes the bench tomorrow but that seems unlikely now. But if he's almost ready now then surely he'll be ready by Everton away in ten days?

Not suggesting we are ready to play without Aguero yet. But on the other hand, when he 's not available, I'm quite excited to see what a front 3 of Sterling, Sane and Jesus interchanging would look like as a sign of things to come.

Started reading up on GJ when we were heavily linked, and the one thing that stood out apart from his attacking ability, was everything I read, all said he's very good defensively.

Pep: Gabriel Jesus has arrived, he’s made two training sessions. This afternoon he will have the first training session with the team

Pep: Hopefully he can do what he’s done with the national team in Brazil and his old club

maybe will get on the bench, if he shows he's fit enough

Absolutely.

I have to qualify that by saying his actual defensive tecnique in his own half, definitely needs work, ie he has a habit of knocking people over sometimes ;) But he has serious discipline if he's told to do a job. some games for Brazil, he just moved to fullback & stayed there when instructed. Had no ego wanting to run forward & show off, just worked for the team. Then suddenly, he's in the oppo's box when cover arrives behind him.

Obviously there aren't any 'here are his misses video' . But from what I've seen he score different types of goals, including improvised finishes and goals from the sort of chances we have been squandering.

As I just posted re Jesus, I also thought Sane's discipline v Chelsea, was fantastic. He was one of our best defenders positionally & we were more vulnerable when he went off.

Can we please try not to build up sky high expectations on this lad? My prediction he will soon be seen on the pitch, starts well than fade to gain form again end of April. Next season he will be much better.

Remember at 19 this is his first transfer going to a complete different part of the world. And the PL is by far not the easiest league to start. In January ! I just hope he succeeds with us and expect to see the best of him in 1 or 2 years time.

I agree and think it is best to wait and watch him live.
I was wondering if anyone on bluemoon has seen him live.
Had pep ever watched him live, apart from 2 training sensations.

There are certain things you don't see
on you tube.

Hope he's ready for the bench v spuds.
woodisome not the place to start.
