Gabriel Jesus

Just had a read back further and agree with what you say. I don't think people ever like to hear that a new signing may have a 'weakness' to their game. As you say, he can and will improve and I think everybody is on the same page in seeing his potential.

Those complaining will be the first to criticise in the matchday threads and say he can't 'trap a bag of cement', etc.

Thanks mate. It's a strange one, everyone has seen the highlights videos and everyone is excited by them, myself included. But people using that as their only evidence to make a judgement on are being naive in my view.

Hopefully most people are going to give him time to settle in and develop. But I'm a bit concerned some people think we've just signed a 19 year old Messi and he's going to win the league for us single handedly. They're putting too much pressure and expectation on the lad too soon.

Can I just add. That a lot of unsuccessful touches does not imply he has a bad touch. The situation has to be taken into account. Dembele (spurs CM) has a successful take-on % of 84.44 whereas Eden Hazard has a % of 76.52 (both according to Squawka comparison matrix). However you can't say that Dembele can dribble better than Hazard can. Harzard is taking on defenders, if he gets past he's normally in on goal if not creating a chance. Dembele operates deeper so is taking on people not naturally inclined to defend.

Applying this to the unsuccessful touch of Gabriel Jesus, maybe offer some insight. If he's playing on the last man, on his shoulder, and balls are being played into his chest, or for him to collect at full speed, but if he controls it he's creating a chance or in on goal, then having lots of unsuccessful touches doesn't mean his touch is bad, it says the balls going to him are very difficult to control. However if you've seen in your 4 games, that he comes to collect balls from midfield by dropping between the lines into acres of space and a heavy touch under no pressure get's it away from him, then yeah you can probably say he has a bad touch.

Can you screenshot where I've said Gabriel Jesus has a bad touch?

It might take you a while to find it because I've never said it. It's a quote that was made up by another couple of posters and you've ran with it. Think you've been a victim of "Fake news" there mate.

You said he had the second most unsuccessful touches in the league (108). So? What does that mean? Explain.. Debate..do something with that statement. You can't just say 108 unsuccessful touches implies he has a bad touch.

Are you being serious?

Read back a couple of pages and you'll understand the point was already made, and the statistic was evidence to back it up. Read and think before you post.

The point I made was that while he has excellent technique, he is prone to the odd heavy touch. Some other posters disagreed and posted his career highlights as evidence that he never miscontrols it. I've quoted statistics to show he's has the 2nd most miscontrols in the entire Brazilian league, so perhaps he does have the odd heavy touch.

It's really not difficult to join up the dots with this one.

Or you could read it that as he is such a good player his team mates pass it to him more often and therefore he has more chance of a heavy touch. If I miscontrol 20 pasess out of 100 am I a better player than someone who miscontrols 100 out of 1000.

okay we've come full circle here, we've said a lot and at the same time said nothing at all. We can agree he's a good player, an even better prospect, but he's not right now a world-beater.

Well done ...and for that you get the 'Gabriel Jesus Sometimes Has A Heavy Touch Trophy'. Look after it - it's a most coveted award.

Well done to you too, your "Hahaha the perfect response" to someone posting his career highlights as evidence that he never has a bad touch wins you the coveted "most naive and misguided reply" award. Although you may have to share it with SWP as he's just done the exact same thing! lol! Share nicely, now!

I'm sorry but none of those clips are of any importance at all

1. None of them were taken on a Wednesday evening.

2. None of them were taken in Stoke.

3. None of them were taken when it was windy.

One of the most exciting players to come to the UK in years let's hope he is allowed to play and not have his flair coached out of him in favour of possession

Someone suggested he never has a heavy touch ?

Or someone suggested he has a very good, even excellent first touch ?

Which is it & are they right or wrong ?

Can't wait to see this kid play in our colours. Are attacking front line when all available is going to be something special under Pep.

Jesus, Kelechi, KDB, Sterling and Sane

If Jesus develops under Pep and blossoms as we hope he will, I honestly think he could be THE global superstar that we as fans want and the club/team needs.

Forwards will always have the most unsuccessful touches due to the pressure they're under when they receive the ball.

It's also not necessarily him having a 'bad' touch, it could be that he tries to be positive when he receives it, rather than passing backwards every time. I'm sure that would be coached out of him though.

I think the comparison with Kelechi is pretty fair and it'll only get better.

It could be that in most games, he gets the ball whacked at him whilst surrounded by thug defenders, on shit pitches.

In fact, it is.

So he's got an awful touch, can't dribble & is a dirty player who'll add to our disciplinary woes? Damn. :)
