Only cos its the special one thats bought him do people think that. Id be surprised if anybody knew that much about him before this window. Nobody I know was that interested when Arry missed out in him..

I'll admit that.

Name me a single African player that Mourinho has ever bought who has turned out shit?

So whats your point.

My point is that I'm especially gutted as losing out on him, because he is obviously going to be something special as Mourinho has bought him.

Im not particularly gutted. If he does turn out to be something special then I am pleased enough to know we have a manager and team that can identify these players. Even if we have a government dept that doesnt know its arse from its elbow, unless purple nose is involved.

I didn't look at it from that perspective, nice one mate, cheered me up a bit.

Not surprised at all if this is true, Mancini loves this guy and he'd be an affordable player now.

Manchester City and Roma are locked in a battle to sign Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago.

City are long-term admirers of the all-action Argentina international and manager Roberto Mancini tried to sign him in January 2010 but the two sides were unable to agree a fee.

Then, Real wanted over £20m for the 25-year-old but his value has since plummeted, having started just 15 games in two seasons for the La Liga giants.

Sources in Spain have suggested that Real will now be willing to sell Gago for around £8.5m but City are hoping to snap him up for half of that figure.

However, they will have to hold off the attentions of Roma, who are also planning a swoop for the defensive midfielder before the window shuts on August 31.

The Serie A side have already had a loan bid rejected by Real and are understood to be considering a cash offer for Gago.

City are ready to negotiate up until the transfer deadline in order to drive down the price for the Argentina international – although it has been suggested that he would rather live in Rome than Manchester.

Can see this being a potential runner (Bobby certainly rated him a couple of years back) - some sort of swap with Ade maybe? - always thought all the noise and speculation about Spuds was an attempt by Ade's advisors to flush Real out - but the spuds rumours seem to have legs - so who knows. Gago would fit into our system but is fitness is a worry.

where was this from mate, a reliable pubication? Maybe if Roma get him it could be due to us bagging De Rossi?

either gago or de rossi would be fantastic for us!!! financially a deal involving an ade/gago swap would be best for us though?
