Game of Thrones Season 3

Anyone read any of GRRM's other books? I'm uptodate with A Song Of Ice and Fire and I'm off on holiday this week and I still haven't picked anything to read.

If you are into Fantasy then go for Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Just as good as GRRM in my opinion.

Whatever you do, don't take this advice. I know it's only my personal opinion, but the Wheel of Time series are the dullest books known to man and the author snuffed it before finishing them.
They truly are tedious, Jordan is of the opinion that never take ten words to describe something when you can pad it out to a 100 or more. One of the most mind numbingly boring series of books I've ever had the misfortune to read. I think I read the first two before giving up on them as utterly tedious tripe.

If you want something really exciting to get your teeth into then try the Riftwar saga by Raymond E Fiest. An exceptional piece of well written and exciting fantasy fiction.

Try Joe Abercrombie. Brutal but laugh out loud funny at times. Characters that make the Lannisters look like pussys!

Or you could go old school and read David Gemmell R.I.P.

I'm a big fan of Gemmell, I met him a few times, and he was a great bloke. Excellent raconteur as well as a very good author.
I particularly like his Waylander trilogy, with the last one being my favourite.
I wasn't as keen on Abercrombie, but he's still worth reading and far better than Jordan.

First few books were brilliant but then it all got a bit silly, and considering the genre that is saying something.
Those mord sith were one bunch of nasty bitches though. I seem to remember they buggered him with an agiel when they where torturing him and he started to like it.
It was all extremely fucking pervy.

Haha don't think he likes it he overcome it, they did take a lull around book 5 6 and 7 but they picked up again his last 4 books of the series were quality

I've only read 1 and a half books of The Malazan Book of the Fallen series, but it's been pretty good so far. Each books seems a little more self-contained (and they're all finished) than A Song of Ice and Fire where some of the books feel a bit like fillers where nothing much happens. But on the other hand there's even more characters and places and names and things , it can be hard to grasp it all.

You recommended these to me. Thanks again. They are quality.
