Game of Thrones

Yes and you got 6 seasons of that. There is no real need for any of that now. We know the characters inside and out, we know their motivations now it's time for the 6 seasons of build up to start having a pay off. It's time for the white walkers to actually break down the wall and pose the threat we've been hearing about for years, it's time for Daenerys to actually try and take the Iron Throne instead of just talking about it for 6 seasons, it's time for Jon's lineage to come to light and the complications that come with that, it's time for Cersei to get her comeuppance etc.

And they have to fit all that in the last 2 seasons. Some things have to be cut.
This.
We no longer need exposition through conversation. The main players are well known as are their ambitions and motivations. We are in the end game now. I would say however that this latest episode could have focused only on the magnificent 7. There was no need for the other locations as apart from an ambiguous scene between the Stark girls there wasn't really any other news.
I would have preferred more screen time for the stand off which would also have given more time for Gendry's marathon. Speaking of which, Marathon and Austerlitz referenced in one battle sequence.

Not disputing that, but I think it's fair to say that GoT is not the same show it was for the first 5 seasons. It used to be a human drama of medieval politics with a fantasy backdrop, and now it is Marvel-esque fantasy. Some people prefer the former to the latter, myself included, because there a very few shows on TV of that ilk, yet there plenty of fanboy-type ensemble superhero shows (which I also like).

I think that by keeping it at ten episodes a season they could still have achieved all you just outlined without falling into so many plot holes and deus ex machinas. I don't think "We need to tie it up" is a valid excuse for compromising on the quality of the writing, but I suppose it's better than what's happened with The Walking Dead, where they've gone the opposite way and stretched things out too thinly.

Could you give me an example of a deus ex machina from the last few episodes as I'm not sure you understand what one is.
A previously know character arriving to save the day having been informed of the situation in a plausible and narrated manner is not deus ex machina.

The common theory of Dani, Jon and Tyrian riding the dragons into the final battle has been blown wide open tonight...

It has for the shows, where I think explaining Tyrion's ancestry in an obvious enough way for a mass audience to pick up on would be too time consuming. It's taken us 6 seasons to have Jon's parentage confirmed and they can hardly go 'oh, and Tyrion's a Targaryen too'.

I think that the books might go the other way though (or at least introduce/prove a third Targaryen) as they have much more time and space to sow the seeds.

Wow great episode.
One thing I didn't get though why when it was first mentioned didn't Danny hop on one of her dragons fly over the wall to see first hand the walking dead (wrong show I know) it would have been like just popping to the shops for some milk!!

Benjen saving John out of absolute nowhere. Its happened few times throughout the show as well. Its doesnt necessarily have to be a new character just an unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless situation

Who sent Brianne South? Arya with Sansa's face on or Sansa?? Thought Arya could only disguise herself as people who are dead?

Nice to see fan theories that have been around for years actually panning out. Viserion was the most upsetting part of episode 6. Break neck pace at the minute can't wait for Winds and ADoS to add all the filler and in all likelyhood a better story. Enjoying the show as well though.
