Game of Thrones

The trouble is many people complaining that it took 9 episodes to get anywhere with the final episode of each season been fantastic and huge, now the writers have pandered to those views people are complaining it's dumbed down and become a fast action fest. Personally I'm not arsed I'd rather they'd have got a better balance but let's face it everyone just wants to get to the end if the story now, much better than tv disappears up its own arse like The Walking Dead, imagine last nights episode 3 or 4 seasons ago with them walking north of the wall for 6 episodes someone running back for 2 episodes another episode fir the message and then that battle in the last episode !!

I agree and disagree..... I only disagree because unlike other people I wasn't too bothered about the previous seasons pacing, I would have been happy with the same pacing and an extra season or 2.... however the suspense did kill me at times, especially during season 4 when Oberyn fought the Mountain, the build up to that was murder!!

I do agree however with the unnecessary gap episodes of people walking about. Lads at work keep making comments about everyone travelling by plane, but I pretty much said thebsame as you, as in woukd you be happy with a 2 episode filler showing people walk back and forth? But I guess you do lose some sort of character development from it such as:

I probably would have been more arsed about Thoros dying had we spent a bit more time with him.

I think that is part of what is making it such a brilliant series. There is no grey area where this is heading or just drifting along like many other shows (including GOT in some series). We are flying full throttle towards the end and its absolutely breath taking every episode. I share people views on how its lost an element of its attraction in the build up and charachter development, but for me its far out weighed by the pace and action in every episode and driving the story forward towards the end. I don't remember a show ever that has managed to do what GOT is doing.

As entertaining as it was, I think there was a lot wrong with Episode 6. But amongst all the more serious points others have raised, the one that I can't get out of my head is:

At one point during the fight, a wight dives for the captured wight on the ground and attacks it; Jon has to go back and pull it off. Why would a wight attack another wight? I'm not sure it would be thinking "They're capturing it to take back as proof of our existence - better stop them", nor have they ever shown any tendency to fight one another, given that they are just mindless drones.
I know it's a small thing but it made no sense!

We have never seen what they would do when one was captured so it's conjecture either way.

Yeah, I'm wondering now if
the Night King knew it had been captured and thus instructed his wights to rescue/kill it. The wights are just cannon fodder to the White Walkers, so knowing the groups' intention would be the only reason for the NK to want get to that captured wight - which then that begs the question of how did he know?
It being conjecture is partly why I'm struggling with this season; when fans are having to fill in the gaps and come up answers for these things, it shows that the writing has got a bit too tangled up.

I think people just like to complain about things. I've seen people complain that there's too much action now and they miss the political backstabbing but this was always the natural conclusion to the series. They weren't going to invite the white walkers to a wedding and then stab them in the back it was always going to be an epic battle of fire and ice.

As for the things like them teleporting across the world I really don't see how this is an issue. Like do people really need to see someone walking to know they travelled? Surely it's common sense that the journey happened and they just cut to the end of it to save time.

As for people wanting more episodes/series so they could fit in stuff like them travelling that just isn't workable. The directors want to finish this to move onto their next project, the actors are all big names now and are super expensive and are only contracted for 8 seasons. Plus it may be the biggest show on TV but it still has a budget to keep to and those epic dragon battles don't come cheap.

My advice would be to sit back and enjoy it while it lasts as we are only getting one more series of this and if you want the added detail then wait until George RR Martin finishes the books (if that will ever happen).

Shall we expect episode 7 early ? I watched 6 on Tuesday I think now I have withdrawals

The issue isn't that people are travelling fast, per se; it's that in past seasons a hell of a lot happened when people travelled. We got to learn a lot about Robert, Ned and the rebellion backstory when they travelled to King's Landing; we saw another side to the Hound and saw Ayra develop when they travelled together; Jaimie's whole character arc happened when he was travelling back with Brienne; the character of Bronne came about essentially because of characters travelling; and the same could be said of the likes of Jorah, Gendry and many others.

In GoT, travelling was not about getting from one place to another; it was the opportunity to develop characters and plot. With that feature now gone we are rarely able to see character develop, to understand their motivation or to even see twists and turns - tropes that defined GoT and made it so good in the first place.

Yes and you got 6 seasons of that. There is no real need for any of that now. We know the characters inside and out, we know their motivations now it's time for the 6 seasons of build up to start having a pay off. It's time for the white walkers to actually break down the wall and pose the threat we've been hearing about for years, it's time for Daenerys to actually try and take the Iron Throne instead of just talking about it for 6 seasons, it's time for Jon's lineage to come to light and the complications that come with that, it's time for Cersei to get her comeuppance etc.

And they have to fit all that in the last 2 seasons. Some things have to be cut.
