Garage mechanic crashed my car! Advice needed.

My fear is I've lost my car and won't receive a penny from his insurance to replace it. He's offering to buy me a new car as I suspect his policy is fraudulent. So do I accept his offer or let my insurance company deal with it all?
 
Your insurance company is the best way to go. They have a legal department and will move heaven and earth to avoid paying you out. (assuming that you have a fully comprehensive policy) Once the garage gets an official letter from your insurance lawyer, they'll pay in full because otherwise, they'll have legal costs on top.
 
Car was only worth 1-1500. He stipulated he would choose a similar replacement. I'm not very happy with that. He could give me a red car!!
 
You have choices like you say.
Let your insurance handle it.
Let him buy a new car(make sure you choose it).
You can file a claim at small claims court. If he fails to defend it you could get the bailiffs on him.

If the car he's offering is of equal value and is reliable, and obviously something you want, then I'd take it. The guy sounds like a ****, and he might be taking advantage due to you being a woman. Do you have a fella who could go round and speak to the tool?
