I put a small pond in years ago and put fish in it. Only one fish left but he’s a good size now.I have 2 neighbours with ponds and they get a random duck on them,i tempted to build one so i can watch the duck
Just never saw one around Dublin. I’ve seen kestrels hovering by the coast but they’re smaller too.They’re fantastic birds, I love hunting with them.

No ducks. It’s only about 5 foot by 2-2.5 foot, but it attracts loads of small birds to drink and bathe daily.

Merlins and Hobby’s must be up there, I’ve never seen one in the wild.I'm no expert on birds, and there must be a twitcher or two on here, so out of the birds listed I'm wondering which are the rarest to be found in British gardens?
I dug it out myself. Just paid for the lining and a small fountain pump. Use it sometimes for the trickling sound of water. No filtration system so just the planting. Oxygenating plants first for the fish. When there’s enough cover add the fish. That’s where I went wrong initially. Feeders are the way to go mate. They pull our feathered friends in like magnets. Hang a few decent size ones in the trees around your garden, Sun flower seeds are best I find if a bit pricey. Put some fat balls and coconut full of seeds out as well.Impressive list that mate. I have it a modest garden size wise but it overlooks the foothills of the Moors and quite rural, so hoping to see what's out there. I think I need to make a bird table and get to observe a wider variety too.

Our resident sparrow hawk uses the feeders to target small birds. Hits them at speed and takes them away to its plucking post.
Not in my garden, but a unique experience....sitting on the edge of a wood, eating a picnic. I expected an avian visitor but, who should come right up to me, bold as brass, but a nuthatch. Enjoyed his morsel too and stuck around for more. Wonderful.Can't beat a bit of twitching.
I have a decent garden which is semi wild also so lots of frogs around.
I feed the birds(and squirrels) with sunflower hearts .
