I knew all the auntie and uncle sayings would come out after my comment but it's the truth. I'm not saying Bale is bad, but outside of his pace, everything he has in his locker can be matched by many many other players in the league. I also feel he lacks the ability to take a game into his own hands when his team are on the back foot and very often he looks anonymous. You don't see that happen when you talk about the best wingers in the world (Ronaldo, Ribery, Di Maria etc).
As I said, Kolarov as a wingback is brilliant, and he has been showing that all pre-season and in the CS game against Chelsea!
What I'm getting at is that if we bought Bale in the future it would be for about 40mil at least, and I don't think Kolarov+pace is worth 40million. I'd much rather stick with Kolarov who is vastly underrated, knows the squad/manager/playing philosophy well now, and on relatively low wages.
