Gareth Bale

Anyone who doesn't think that Bale would be a good investment is pretty stupid.
Pros:
-Fast (we only have Clichy and Sinclair who are fast)
-A very good dribbler
-His shooting is fantastic from close range or short range
-His free kicks and corners are brilliant
-He's a winger (obviously) which is something we're lacking this season
-He'll turn Dzeko into a 20+ goal a season striker.
-He'll also create more goals for Kun
-Pretty versatile, can play left back, left wing or just in behind a main striker
-Young, still has 5 or 6 years until he reaches his peak

Cons:
-Expensive
-Diver (something we don't really want associated with Manchester City)

I think that Mancini should take a very strong stance with Bale and his diving.
If he dives, he gets fined or doesn't play next game (or maybe something not quite so extreme). But his talent is obvious, the guy is world class, or at least on his way to being world class. His value is only going to go up over the next few years.
You can add "drifts in and out of games, disappears completely in some games, hasn't produced this form in a long run of games" to the list of cons.

I disagree, he has produced outstanding performances in 80% of his games this season. And everyone one of our players seemingly disappears from games for small periods of time every now and again, besides Zaba and Milner. Bale never has an entire anonymous game unlike Sinclair, Nasri and Tevez who have done this multiple times this season.

I'm sick to death of people doing this with Bale. He plays well for 10 games, scores 8 or 9 and he's the best player in the world. After that he'll go quiet for a longer time and everyone forgets about him again.

I'd like to have him here at City, and I'm not doubting that he's a great player - but when people call him world class I cringe.

He can be marked out of games by clever man on man tactics and we have seen this in a number of games this year however he has the ability to make his mark in an instant ala West Brom away to name but one game to more than justofy his inclusion week in week out.

His set piece / corner ability is streets ahead of what we currently have and he will continue to ply and if anything improve on his skill set as he gets older.

A must for our team but alas highly unlikely to come to us.

He will go for anything between 50 to 60 million so not bad for just a good player Bob

You are 100% Bob, very over hyped imo. A greedy self obsessed bastard as well. His game revolves around his pace and power ....1 bad injury could = nothing to his game anymore.

1 bad injury could end anyone's career.

His form is something new.

I'd give my sweaty scrotum for one of ours to play well for 10 games and score 8 or 9 goals.

Bale has scored 4 more goals in all competitions than our top scorer (Dzeko) this season, not bad for an attacking midfielder/winger.

I agree that a really bad injury that costs him a yard of pace could hurt his game and yet he seems to be adapting to a more central role now and isn't just a speed merchant winger anymore. He's actually evolving as a footballer unlike so many promising British wingers who just seem to hover around the same quality level their entire career (SWP, Lennon, Johnson, Young, etc.).

I think he is a fantastic player and it's no surprise the likes of Real Madrid are in for him, certainly think he and Wilshere are the best outfield British players in a long time. I'm not sure he's worth £50million as a player but there seems to be a sentiment that he can be branded worldwide as a star which will make whichever top club who signs him plenty of money.

Spot on Josh. The guy is already held together with frog tape. Take away the pace and what are you left with? Don't get me wrong, he's a special talent, and if his fitness was guaranteed, it would be a no brainer.

What has he done to get this accolade?

Some comments above show just how blinkered some of our fans are, he's a fantastic player and has been for a few years now. He'd be a great asset to Manchester City.

really surprised as to how this thread is picking up momentum...

Bale would 100% never come here... seems like the only place he will go (except for staying at spurs if they get chimps league nxt year) is europe.

I highly doubt he will go for a Premier league team ... what makes people think he would ever consider coming to us?

Yeah you're right. No way would he stay in South America, he'll definitely move to Europe.
(sarcasm if you're a simpleton)

I always thought Bale was overrated.

Changed my mind now though.

Offer Spurs Tevez and Kolorov ( and I really dont want to see either of them go); plus cash - and you see both Spurs and City step up a level.

not sure we have enough money though.

Tribal Tuesday 19

"Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is furious with Tottenham over claims they want to sign Gareth Bale.

Punto Pelota says Perez is not interested in the Welshman, particularly at Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's €50 million asking price.

Perez suspects Levy is using Real to flush out other offers ahead of the summer market and is unimpressed by his behaviour."

Peres must be fed up with dealing with Levy. LOL.
Particularly after he was forced to pay 40mil for Modric the flop.
