Yes we would.

Unless we had a gift to play top level football & were already stinking rich, in which case I'm pretty sure most of us would rather continue playing top level football, just as most top level footballers, most of whom could also move to China, also choose instead, to stay at the top for as long as they possibly can.

Most people are not money grabbing ****s.

Actually most are money grabbing.

It is only people like ourselves who would want the glory, excitement, and thrill of playing top level football, before the greed of more money on top of fortunes already pocketed.

It's a shame some people serve King cash, I have watched a fair few money hoarders die young in the past few years. Wouldn't buy their granny a false set of teeth some of them.

Top level football is culturally ruined by money for those without the brains to realise the futility of the second 100 million.

That is why Rodri, and the like are special. He , being very intelligent, realises true value. Kompany is similar in outlook.

Some fans whinge on when players want a transfer saying, "Honour your contract you c***t", yet if a player is given a contract by a club, and then pushed out because they don't meet the expectations for what the club/fans expect why is it that it's primarily the player's fault and suddenly now should is it "right" to accept lower wages -- effectively discrediting the concept of a contract?

We can be some selfish individuals can't we, fans?

Players are pushed out all of the time, but fans usually have no problem with that. Is that honouring a contract? How is that different than a player who searches for a transfer whilst under contract?

You can't have it both ways. Not saying all who are attacking Bale, or if you saw the "Sunderland 'till I die" documentary, Rodwell, but why is it the player that's almost always the "greedy c**t" and FAR less the owner/management/director who gets ridiculed for making a mistake?

I actually think I know why, as my musings are more rhetorical than anything...

It's weird how people think, it's like they believe they will live forever. Always chasing that carrot dangling on the stick in front of them. This week a guy I used to work with died. He was 61. Well paid we talked many times about retiring early and enjoying the years of hard work. Everytime I bumped into him it was, " I thought you were retiring?" He always had some reason why it would be soon, one more month, one more year. Last time we spoke I said, "Get out, otherwise there will always be one more year, one more big pay day, you can go on like that indefinitely." Last August he went to the doctors with a cough that wouldn't shift thinking it was a virus. He was told he had lung cancer and with treatment he might have another 3-6 months. He lived 11. Get out as young as possible, drink the wine, watch the sunset, listen to the music, free yourselves from the stress. R.I.P Max, play up Pompey!

How very poignant Chapo! I turned 60 a month ago myself and the aim is to get to 67 and claim maximum social security here, but like you said, I don't want to not be able to enjoy a long retirement so its a balance ;-( Sad about your fellow workmate - tragic end to his life!!

Bale could play on, retire rich & become a money grabbing **** afterwards.

Because the club may be a bunch of ****s, doesn't mean the player isn't also one.

You get one life & it seems that quite a few prefer the idea of doing fuck all, but being super rich, to doing what you love, for as long as possible & being merely very rich.

I wonder why any of those people bother paying so much to watch City.

They could spend that on doing fuck all.

I’d tend to agree but people were losing thier jobs at Sunderland and he had other offers on the table. Bale doesn’t

I’d stay if I was him. Why not? Zidane won’t last long and he might get a chance with the next manager

The long and short of it is that he probably wouldn’t get into any of the top 10 teams in Europe but even if he did his wages(even if he took a 50% cut), length of contract he would want and injury record is prohibitive

I’m regards him going to China. I’ve been and loved it so as a life experience it would have been great for him but it also flys in the face of his personality. He hasn’t bothered learning Spanish in 6 years, he’d have no chance with Mandarin

It is a balance and those who have to continue working to have a decent standard of retirement have to, I understand that. The sad thing is he didn't. Sure he earned more by carrying on but sadly it is of no use whatsoever now.

Yes a decent hard working man who did well for himself. Life is so random and cruel sometimes.

're Bale and money,

One guy who was in my weds golf group is my best example, he had sold his business for 12 mil a couple of years back. He always came in the bar last after the round expecting his drink on the table, never once venturing to the bar, he was forever peddling watches fort thousands of pounds. Diagnosed and dead within the Winter this season, taking his 12 mil with him. Had split from his missus after he sold firm and his son wouldn't speak to him. A miserable get who often gets toasted on a weds, "To the regiment" .

I am potless, preferring to spend every penny on City , nice golf club, a few months in Spain every Winter, and good wine. I don't get hoarding.
