Gareth Barry...yay or nay?

Just goes to prove that you shouldn't believe everything you see on the telly!

GB is pure class, calm and assured on the ball, good distribution, and an eye for goal...anyone who has played a bit of football recognises how good he is, how he quietly runs the game - like an earlier poster said, take him out and see the difference! And as for the 'mistake' when Dunney scored, he should never have been marking him anyway, in my opinion.

Can we get back to having a go at other teams players and not looking for "Weakest Links" and "Yay or Nays" on OUR OWN players? The season has just started and we are fourth - hello !!

ok let me start with the following:

1.Yes I'm bloody chuffed we are doing so well

2.I fully back Sparky

3.I havent seen him live yet but will in 2 weeks and am aware sometimes TV doesnt pick up everything.

Now,I base this comment not just on the Villa game but what I've seen this season so far...

I dont think Gareth Barry is all that.

I dont think he's a bad player,I just dont see him as the be all and end all.

I think he was supposed to pick up that rag **** for both goals and didnt.I also know he was at fault for Dunney scoring the other night.

He has given away some horrendous passes.

He also seems too deep.

Also his concentration seems a real issue and he looks dazed a lot and tends to ball watch.

As of now I'd have Nige and Ireland as my midfield ahead of him...and in the role he plays I'd have a fully fit Johnno ahead of him(I know its asking a lot)...and I'd have VK in mf ahead of him.

So i ask, is it just me or is he a weak link.Remember I'm not saying he's a bad player, just that he isnt all that.

Thoughts for or against?

cretin.

At first I had to look over and make sure it wasn't Pee Dubya starting thread, and then absolutely not surprised it was Thaksin spouting this fountain of shit. I'd rather read Andy Gray's description of shitting in a bucket. It's almost as if I've been watching an alternate City Universe. Gareth Barry has one of the least flashy styles of play yet outside of Shay Given has been our most reliable player game in and game out. He's workmanlike, grinding out results. You won't see Robinho's dizzying stepovers or Big Nige's shin splintering tackles, but if there was one person on the team outside Given who I'd rely on to give a solid performance, it would be Gareth Barry. While Elano will be missed in the attack, Barry delivers his fantastic passes in a holding roll.

To be fair he did say he hadn't seen him live! You are a brave man to slag Barry off on here with such scant evidence though - get to see him a few times - live - then come back on and start another thread - 'Apologies, I was so so wrong about Barry' :-)
