Gareth Barry...yay or nay?

Barry has quitely gone about his business picking up the ball in the middle of the park. It's not a showy job but he's done it exceptionally well, a standard that very few players can reach. It's more about his movement and speed of thought that make Barry stand out.

Barry = class.

Barry has vision ,skill can turn on a sixpence and is and will be the heartbeat of our team for a good few years to come , total class and when you consider how much of the ball he has he very rarely gives it away.

For a start I can't believe the abuse the OP has got cosidering he went all out to avoid being over the top in his first post.

In answer, I'm a YAY. I agree with most people that he's been one of our best performers - but has maybe been off the pace in the last few games. However, wasn't he ill around the Fulham/West Ham matches? It's also not surprising he was affected by the abuse on Monday - it was pretty intense and he was at Villa all his adult life so is probably quite attached to the club.

As for being too defensive, even with De Jong we've got a very attacking line up so it's not surprising he's playing a withdrawn role - he's not box to box all action (I doubt he's fast enough for that) but he's very clever at keeping things going in the middle. If you compare his stats with De Jong he does play a good ten plus yards further forward on average, while not spending too much time in the opposition penalty area.

gareth and shay have been hughes best buys, people are all to willing to pick fault rather than look at the very positive impact that gareth has had on the side. he breaks things up all the time and can pull off a 50 yard pass right into the stride of any of our attacking players, dont forget we now in gareth have a player that can deliver a corner, we havent seen that for years .

Like everyone says, Barry is all that.

And more.

As a lot on here know, I'm a Garry Barry fan (his biggest according to the back of my shirt!) but I'll be honest enough to say he hasn't played at his best the last few games (bearing in mind he wasn't well against WHam). Before this though, he was outstanding and as one or two have already pointed out one of our best buys under Mark Hughes. Value for money is putting it lightly.

I agree, I also think Bellamy and Given are shit buys.

Worst decision we ever made letting Danny Mills go after 5years dedicated service!

A relative OP in my opinion. I don’t know how old you are, or your brother. Take a little from this thread and ignore those negative comments, from these particular posters listed below, who gave no input. Its difficult to receive any inspiration from obvious louts. Is this what this forum is amounting to yob rule?True blue.

You've got to be fucking kidding me.

He's been brilliant for us, and was an absolute steal at 12mil.

Wow, just wow.

ok let me start with the following:

1.Yes I'm bloody chuffed we are doing so well

2.I fully back Sparky

3.I havent seen him live yet but will in 2 weeks and am aware sometimes TV doesnt pick up everything.

Now,I base this comment not just on the Villa game but what I've seen this season so far...

I dont think Gareth Barry is all that.

I dont think he's a bad player,I just dont see him as the be all and end all.

I think he was supposed to pick up that rag **** for both goals and didnt.I also know he was at fault for Dunney scoring the other night.

He has given away some horrendous passes.

He also seems too deep.

Also his concentration seems a real issue and he looks dazed a lot and tends to ball watch.

As of now I'd have Nige and Ireland as my midfield ahead of him...and in the role he plays I'd have a fully fit Johnno ahead of him(I know its asking a lot)...and I'd have VK in mf ahead of him.

So i ask, is it just me or is he a weak link.Remember I'm not saying he's a bad player, just that he isnt all that.

Thoughts for or against?

Arse.

Gaz Baz is the only reason why Lampard and Stevie 'not guilty, honest' G can now play so well together for England so its obviously a yay from me.
