Gareth Barry

I agree he is a good player and he is probably the first name on the team sheet as he is for England. And he does deserve a shirt, but if we are talking about winning the title we need all of our midfield players to chip in with goals. He's only scored 4 goals since he's been here.
He's deffo gonna be in mancini's plans because he loves defensive midfielders.
I just don't think we can play with 2 defensive midfielders if we are going to win the title.

De Jong + Barry 5 goals between them.

Why not?

If you stop the goals, you are not going to lose.

In American football, they say, "Offenses win matches, defences wn championships".

It's the same in any ball sport.

I just think that we would have enough on the pitch with de Jong, then bring on Barry like we've been using vieira over the past 18 months.
We need more goals from the middle.

Had the pleasure of watching the FA Cup semi final again all the way through on Blu-Ray. For anyone who hasn't done this, I recommend it ....

My brother and I purposefully just watched Gareth Barry to see what he did and what he contributes ...... it really was an eye opener.

He closes down all over the pitch, he covers for Kolarov on several occasions, he presses Ferdinand / Van der Sar into making the mistake that led to the goal, he wins tackles and seemingly, is always available for a pass.

Sure, he isn't the fastest, doesn't score many goals and isn't that creative in the final third .... we have other players that do that very well. Every David Silva needs a Gareth Barry ...... that's why we have a decent team now instead of a midfield packed of Irelands, Elanos, Petrovs etc who couldn't do any of the above that Barry does so well.

Always worthy of a shirt IMO.
Truth.

He isnt up to standard for were we want to be. IF Barry starts the majority of games next year we wont have a chance of winning the title in my view. Fuck me I dont know what Mancini sees in him. Slow passing gone to shit and slows down the play way too much. I think it will be a huge mistake if we dont look for another central player if Nasri doesnt come. I dont know but looking even at what is at the club in the central area I am hoping that Barry will be used in the Vieria role next season. The less we see of him in the starting team the better I hope Milner is given a chance in the centre midfield this season and if M Johnson sticks around and is fit I would hope he is battling it out with Milner for a place in the team.

So You think you know more about our players than Bobby and his coaching staf?

I didnt say I know more than the coaching staff and Bobby. I am giving my view on the player that I have never rated from his Villa days. Never consistant enough he will play 1 good game and then will have run of 5 games being shit. Not everyone is going to argee with who Mancini plays in his team but we are all entitled to a opinion on the subject.

SWP is getting his chance right now in the friendlies
Plus he's in the shop window for the MLS. ESPN Sportscenter has shown that 30 yard belter over and over. He'll be well known in the States after the next couple weeks if he keeps it up
I guarantee they will highlight him on Sunday. At his age MLS is a good option.

Maybe its a nostalgia thing with SWP, he has done wonders for us over the years. I think he's a breathe of fresh air in terms of the way he plays. I have no recollection of him diving but plenty of him getting kicked all over the park (manure ?) I think he'd do a job if he stayed albeit from the bench.

With regard to Barry I think he's a great player, passing can be hit and miss but a great engine. I'd also like to see more of Milner

Got him on the back of my shirt. My hero, love the way he gets on with it and doesn't do anything fancy. So underrated it's untrue, deserves a lot more praise on here but because he doesn't stand out, he hardly gets any approval. He's crucial.

Also, soon after the goal in the Semi Final, he went in for a 50-50 with Scholes in the middle and instead of backing out, he threw himself in whole-heartedly. One reason I love him.

Gareth Barry believes the demand for success at Manchester City is less intense after their FA Cup triumph.

Expectations soared at Eastlands the moment Sheikh Mansour bought the club in 2008 and after spending over £300million on transforming the squad, City beat Stoke at Wembley in May to end their 35-year trophy drought.

The FA Cup Final win also provided the spur to propel City to a third-place finish and straight into next season's UEFA Champions League group stage rather than facing a hazardous qualifier.

City are expected to continue their progression by making an impact in the Champions League while being genuine Premier League title contenders.

But Barry does not believe the pressure is as fierce as it has been since he arrived from Aston Villa in 2009.

"It was a lot worse before we won a trophy," said the 30-year-old England midfielder.

"Winning the FA Cup is a reminder that we can go the full distance in a competition. That drought is finally over"

Drought over

"We cannot just rest on that, though. It is important that we don't keep still.

-- Thu Jul 21, 2011 6:44 pm --

I disagree with Gareth here, even though we won the fa cup and it was the best day of my life, I feel the pressure is just as intense because everybody will be ready to slate us next season if we win nothing.
