Garrido - when will Hughes learn?

Garrido? Are you lot real? He's garbage no doubt.
Yeh Zabaleta to left back and yes Elano on.
Would have defo won 4-1 then or would have done better going forward.
Fernandes a joke also.
We have an FA Youth Cup winning team and plenty of other sccessful teams know when to bring in the youth. Garrido and Fernandes are crap. You can take them with you and start up a third tier football team then do one. I'm interested in getting something going for the future

Wrong so many times.

Spot on.
Nothing wrong with Garrido last night.
Unlike that other pillock at right back, who was culpable for ALL three goals.

For the third, Richards certainly was well out of position, giving his man plenty of time & space to cross. But when he did cross, Garrido was by the NEAR post and Guerrero was completely unmarked on the left, where Garrido should have been.

A midfield 3 of SWP, Elano and Ireland, yeah that would of worked. Oh let me guess, SWP should play right-side, so it should be a midfield 2 of Elano and Ireland, i'm sure we would of won 4-1, had plenty of possession and not get absolutely arse-raped by a strong, powerfull and skillfull Hamburg side.

So you would rather play a RIGHT footed RIGHT back at LEFT back instead of a left footed left back
Hughes cannot win.

Im confused reading that, not sure what to think now ...lol

I'm sure Hughes got criticised for NOT bring Garrido on at Arsenal. Now he gets criticised for bringing him on.

This board gets more like The Ministry of Truth in 1984 every day.
I don't know about bringing him on, I would have started him against Arsenal. We had little chance of winning there and It was a less important game than last nights, its about making use of the squad.

As for the OP, I'm no Garrido fan but he was OK last night and was the right option in the circumstances.

Quite right. Garrido was caught ball watching.
But if Richards had been anywhere near to his man, then he may have cut out the cross in the first place.
Which unless I'm mistaken is still the primary role of a full back !
Last night Micah wasn't at the races.
I'm not having a pop at the lad.
Just stating facts IMHO.
It was one of the worst displays I've ever seen from a full back.
And if that upsets the get behind your team brigade so be it.
Occasionally you need a reality check.
And last night Richards was the worst player in a blue shirt by a mile.

I don't agree with the original post because I think Hughes recognises Garrido's not good enough. But last night his hand was forced. He couldn't but Zaba back there as he was short of holding midfielders.

Don't agree with "Garrido did alright". He was very much at fault (not only one tho) for the third goal. He did worse than just ball watch, he looked over his shoulder, saw the man coming in at the far post and casually jogged backwwards in a poor attempt to cover it. He should have bust a gut and with an attitude that if that ball comes over it's mine. But that's the difference between him and a top class defender and why Hughes only plays him if he has to.

No need to slate Garrido on last nights display, sure he may have been out of position for the third, but where the f*ck was the rest of the defence for most of the match? Very annoying as I had started to think over the past 2 months that as a unit the defence had been looking more solid with the prolonged injury free spell that Onuoha has had in the team, and Dunne playing more like his old self....until last night!

On the other hand, there is no excuse EVER for Hughes to play Fenandes EVER again. I used to like him as you could see that he was trying to put in a shift, but recently and espeicially last night I have come round to most peoples views...that he runs around chasing shadows, cannot pre-empt the opposition or read the game and is generally shit!! Hughes, if wanting to introduce some fresh legs, should have bought on Elano....although he isn't the best tackler, he would have been atleast as effective as Fenandes in midfield PLUS he would have got more out of those around him and linked the play to those upfront..

Speaking of which, I really have no opinion on our striking department....thought Sturridge showed very little to justify a new contract with the club, but once replaced by Benjani you could clearly see that he was rusty and not match fit. This change should have been ideally 10 minutes earlier as we wern't holding up the ball to stifle theHamburg onslaught. Felt sorry for Bellamy as was rarely in his right position or in possesion of the ball.

Overall, i'd say the only major decision Hughes got wrong were the blend upfront, and once the match had kicked off was bringing on Fenandes..but we really do need him to sort out what the f*ck is going on upfront!!! If only Bojinov was registered.
