No matter how good he is, if you want to buy something and the other party doesn't want to sell, there's not a lot anyone can do.

I agree with that, but if Milan had no intention of selling, why would they have entertained the delagation from City on Monday? Why not call them to put them off and put out a statement that Kaka is staying and that due to the tremendous support from the fans, they have decided he's not for sale at any price?

That would have been a much better message for them, making them look even better. And it would have avoided any argument over who pulled out and who didn't.

But they didn't do that did they. They allowed us to go over and sat and heard what we had to say. There was no point in doing that if there was no way a deal could be struck. Doesn't make sense.

there is one scenario where it does. kaka's dad is angling for more money from milan, so puts out the feelers to other clubs. if milan didnt believe he really would want to leave, then they could call his bluff and invite offers, knowing that he wouldn't be able to go through with it. everyone hugs and makes out that money was never the issue.

Ac Milan fucked him over. I'm really impressed with him and his handling of the interview today, he said it how it was!

Agree with this. I am sure he does not have limitless funding he will be working within clearly defined parameters.

Many people on here don't seem to realise that dealing with Berlusconi is a very tricky business. He is a snake.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/berlusconi-proved-to-have-bribed-judge-but-avoids-prison-683241.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 83241.html</a>

the devil would get ripped off dealing with Berlusconi.

Not seen any interview with Cook yet, is there a link where I can watch it? As I stated, not looking for anyone to blame, just know how it works at that level. Massive salaries = must get the job done

You're not on your own mate. I am sympathetic to your view.

At that level there are no "near misses". The job is either done or it's not.

So while we might berate Belusconi and AC Milan, the reality is that the deal wasn't done, and maybe should have been pulled a long time earlier rather than let us be dragged through the media as "typical City".

I think some of the people we are negotiating with seem to be a lot more wily than Cook. Not only Berlusconi, but Allardyce and even Zola (now that was an overpriced deal!).

But we need to move on. And I don't think Cook can get many more wrong now.

If he wants to be the Executive Chairman of the richest club in the world then he needs to show results.

I'm sure he's having a sly dig at Milan with the "respectfully, Hamburg said he was for sale" comment. Don't blame him tbh.

I'm sure just before the deal broke down, sky were reporting that Real Madrid were willing to match the £100million???

I don't believe Cook would dare walk away without having a deal done
and coming up with this vague explanation of this failure.

Lets not forget there is a board member from Dubai present too,
I bet this is the true decision maker for Sheik Mansour.
I guess he was piss off with the treatment from AC,
and tell Cook, "lets fcuk off, don't worry I explain to the Boss."

As much as I find Cook's enormous ego incredibly nauseating, I think he knows his stuff and that is the reason he was snaffled from Nike. He had major success with Brand Jordan there don't forget.

Maybe he just needs to watch Jerry Maguire a few more times to get it right and show us the money!!!

I have faith in him providing he stops using nobber phrases like 'bottling it' on live tv *rolls eyes*

Things could be worse, we could sign Craig Bellamy - oh that's right we already have done - the nightmare begins
