Garth Crooks stat on Pablo Zabaleta

Love the guy, and I actually think he is still improving.

correct, i can't believe i wanted him gone 3 or 4 years ago!

he has certainly shaken off his previous tag of 'good squad player but not good enough to hold down a regular position'<br /><br />-- Mon Nov 26, 2012 3:14 pm --<br /><br />

zabs away from home and in big games.

maicon at home to none top 6 teams.

whilst richards is out.

i think zabs is our best right back.

its a really tough call,

attacking wise: maicon, richards, zab

defending wise: zab, richards, maicon

result: happy fucking days!

In his first season and a half he was a liability. Everyone knew he had it in him he just needed to calm down

There has been such a vast improvement in his all round game since Roberto arrived so some credit is certainly due to his coaching, in fact he has become a top class player where previously he was a journeyman who gave 100%.

not sure if any other player in the premiership or europe as improved as much as zabalata
he is quality with leadership determination

He's improved his defending hugely. Doesn't dive in and get silly cards like he used to. Yet he offers very little going forward. He gets in good positions but isn't a good enough crosser and doesn't get round the back enough. That does limit us as we are a narrow team who need the full backs to create things. Micah is still first choice for me but zab is a great guy to have around, is versatile, a great pro and tends to come into his own defensively in the real battles.

Zab's become our numero uno right back which is quite an achievement with Micah and Maicon in the frame. I'm delighted but surprised.

Can't agree with you there DD regarding his forward play. He did twice as much in their half as Cole did in ours yesterday and he's one of the best around.

He really has developed into a solid member of the match day squad. As some have pointed out he was a yellow card waiting to happen when he first came, these days his reading of the game his improved to where his timing means he doesn't look as likely to get a booking. Against Spurs we saw that maturity he could have really gone for Adebayor for all his diving and the elbow he got given. Never afraid to put his body on the line for the team its obvious he cares about his club and we the fans have picked up on that passion and give it back to him. Loved the pitchside videos of the players doing "Do do do pablo zabaleta" after QPR. Its also clear he helped Kun settle in to life in Manchester. Im not surprised by that stat in the OP his never say die attitude is brilliant to see.
