Garth Crooks stat on Pablo Zabaleta

Defensively I think Zab is our best right back, but I prefer Richards and Maicon going forward

City seem to get Zab in a lot as an attacking right back, and I think Zab could improve his shooting / final pass. Richards and Maicon are better in the final third. This is just my impression.

I agree with the last point. Zabaleta and Richards game has improved a lot. Whether that's down to experience, play with good players, Mancini or a combination of all 3 but when Zab was first here he reminded me very much of Sun Jihai. Very committed but in danger of giving away too many free-kicks
 
I fuckin love Zabs! He always does his job, giving a no nonsense, 100% display every time he plays. He would be my first choice right back every game.
 
He is fantastic. Ok, the one thing missing from his game is being able to finish. But we only know that becasue he consistently gets into great goalscoring positions. Besides as others have said his primary function is defense.
 
In terms of other players having big effects on results, I believe I saw a stat that had our win percentage at roughly half without David Silva.
 
the role of the full back has changed over recent years and dare i say it their primary role is not defending. in the system we play I would suggest that Maicon and Richards are the better full backs
