Garth Crooks stat on Pablo Zabaleta

Zaba is my favourite player at City. I think I made the first appreciation thread on here for the guy.

Those slagging him for his play in the final third need their heads checking. People saying Micah and Maicon are better in the final third are wrong. They get nowhere near the positions Zaba gets himself into so don't have the opportunities he has once he is there. Zaba gets in behind full backs and inbetween the centre backs over and over again because of his running off the ball. His footballing brain in the final third is like that of a striker. Unfortunately he is not the best finisher but what he does do is pull defences all over the show. Maybe we need to work on what he does when he is in behind but he is ridiculously good at what he does in the final third and then has the motor to run back into position, not something you can say of Micah and Maicon.

Zaba would lay his heart on the line for this club and for me he is the first name on the team sheet every week. Love the guy.

If our marque players applied themselves like Zaballeta did yesterday then we would be back top of the league

His heart has never been a doubt, however,Zaba has developed beyond recognition from the clumsy, inconsistent, accident waiting to happen player we initially signed - one of the leagues best right backs now.

We really should do more shopping in Argentina,in the main, superb athletes and attitudes.
Agree, how they aren't world champions I don't know. Their national team is light year ahead of England, just look at their forwards Messi, Lavezzi, Tevez, Aguero, Higuain

(compare with Rooney, Defoe, Welbeck and ermmmm Carrol?)

This. He gets in great positions but has no real end product, if he can work at his crossing as much as he worked on his defending then he'll be arguably the most complete right back in the league.

With zabba being able to play almost anywhere I hope the pressure of being the next Ian brightwell isn't to much. Seriously great bloke and sort of player you want around coaching at city when he packs it in.

-- Tue Nov 27, 2012 11:12 am --

With zabba being able to play almost anywhere I hope the pressure of being the next Ian brightwell isn't to much. Pardon the gross generalisation, but I would much rather we did our shopping in Argentina than Brazil.

I love the fearless attitude of the Argies and Zab is a prime example of that.

He has developed exceptional leadership qualities and could easily fill in for Vinnie if the occasion arose.

I think we need to calm down before we start brandishing about claims that he's the best right-back in the league. He's a great right-back but when Richards is fit he won't be able to play consistently due to the competition for position.

Based on form he's definitely been the most impressive for me, though. Over the course of the season, probably not.

Like say the last 6 games of last season???

Corraza de leon, quality player and top lad is Pab Zab a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.

Zab is without doubt one of the best if not the best right back in the premier league ! definately one of my favourite city players ever . Love the guy ! His only downfall is his wastefulness in the final third but he's such a good defender it makes up for it ! He is after all a defender first and foremost

Love the guy, and I actually think he is still improving.

correct. not many players show the application and dedication to continually improve season after season. The consumate professional.

Mancini must also take credit for Pablo,s improvement over the years, same with Micah and Lescott, and to a lesser extent Vinny.
