Gary Cahill

This is press talk. We do need more quality at CB but Cahill is not it and just thinking about it we do have Boteng and Micah who fill in. If we were going for Cahill then just bring back Ned.

All depends if Mancini is fully convinced on the future of Kolo and potentially, Lescott.

Joleon has been magnificent since deputising but i am not sure whether the manager sees him as a long term partner for Kompany. That said, is Cahill any better than what we have?.

I don't think Joleon is a long term partner for Kompany (bearing in mind we'll potentially be facing world class teams in one competition this season, and fighting for the title the following Saturday) - but what he is is a great back-up who will accept that role gracefully.

This means any CB we bring in has to be a step up on him, and for me Cahill isn't. If this Vertonghen is half as good as people say, then we should get him. Left-sided like Lescott but also billed as a 'ball-playing centre-back' which for all his attributes Joleon certainly isn't.

Do we want/need Cahill given our recent defensive record?

Bolton say we can have him for £17m.

Worth it?

Chris Samba please...

^^^^^ Both! We need them to play in the League Cup and in PL matches immediately following CL matches. It's about strength in depth and we don't have it at Centre Half at the moment.

Vinny is world class and will lead us for several years

Lescott has performed brilliantly and is amongst the most effective centre halves playing in the premier league.

Micah,Boateng,Boyata can provide cover if necessary so we don't need a slightly above average Premier League defender especially at £17 million

If Pique or someone of his ilk became available that's a different matter

He's too old. We tend to sign younger players who can grow together. A couple of seasons back I'd have said yes for sure but not any more.

Edit: whoops, I assumed you meant Tim Cahill before you edited your post.

He's 25 and in his prime!

oops, didn't see your oops

No not for me.

Far more Cb's i'd rather have than this guy.
Even alot of Bolton fans don't believe it when alot of the bigger clubs are linked with him as they don't rate him as much.

I'd much rather have two other Cb's which are located at the other lancashire club:

Phil Jones
Christopher Samba

Post of the Season, and if people reckon Samba is to old at 27(ish), then 10000000% sign this Jones kid, he is grade.

Bollocks.

This lad is by a country mile the best player Bolton have on their books.
My mate is a Bolton season ticket holder and says he is far too good for them.
He's very quick and a brilliant ball player. Lescott has played well but gets turned too easily against quick forwards.

Vinny and Cahill for me would be awesome.

P.S and he's english and has proved himself in the prem.
